I am an average athlete (cross country, swimming) who wants to get really good abs. I mean they are alright now but I want to get them to be really impressive.
What are the keys besides diet (I know to cut our lots of fat and sodium which i do already, could do more) if other diet recommendations fit, that would be helpful also.
But, I am basically looking for workouts and when to do them (amount per week) Because right now I have the impression I should do a 15 minute or so focus on abs 7 days a week. I guess thats not a good way?
Thanks

you know i basically go by the term train abs everyday and hit them hard.
I do before everyworkout at gym
Lying leg raises - 4 sets *weighted* 15-25
THEN BEST OF THEM ALL IMO.
Cable crunches "if done right" will shred the fat and pop those abs out
Do about 4 sets of heavy weight 15-30 reps.
It personally works for me

i dont do any direct ab work and manage to get them sore almost every workout doing the rest of my routine. i wouldnt say mine are "amazing" but thats just some food for thought.
If what I see does not amaze me, I am not looking hard enough.
The more you learn, the more you realize you don't know.

A thousand reps
If you are already fit and can see your abs, then do crunches and other stuff every day. Thousands of reps and you will be a superstar!
If anyone disagrees with me, I point to Serge Nubret, Zabo and Bruce Lee as men with abs that will knock you over who all did gazillions of reps. Everyone wants things easy. Nothing comes easy. See someone with anything "awesome" and you can know they worked hard.

Genetics! Come on people! It totally depends on you body. Some people work abs like crazy and NEVER see abs, it all depends on your abs insertion points.
Just do abs regularly and see what comes out, thats all you can do.
4, 6, 8 packs are ALL genetics! You'll see soon enough lol.
Of course FAT LOSE makes the BIGGEST difference!"I'm worried about deadlifts too. I mean the word "dead" has got to be in there for a reason. Are you sure they won't kill me?" - olympic

The saying "abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym" is 95% true. Cut your bf down by watching your diet, and doing lots of cardio and your abs will show through. Of course, like stated before, genetics plays a big part as well.
Abs are very important to me I work them hard, and I'm seeing fantastic results. My lower abs are my weakness... if I can get those as ripped as my upper abs, I'll have a very nice 8 pack
Good luck!
