Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Sticky Thread Sticky: O35 Official Deadlift Competition Thread

Since we lost the last deadlift competition thread, it's time for a new one. Ideally we can get this stickied, and get some mod reps for the weight class winners. I'll be checking the contest regularly to update standings. Since the thread may last longer than a year, we can declare winners at...

Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: Finding new energy to hit the iron (Over 35 Promotion))

Hey folks, I turn 35 in about a month and if you're like me, you don't have the energy you had when you were 20. Some days it's a real struggle to find the energy to hit the gym, and supplements can really help in this regard. There are many pre-workout supplements out there, so it can be tough...

Genetic Potential?

This whole concept is interesting. I believe that we often confuse genetics with potential, as if they were one in the same. Aren't 'genetics' things that you have absolutely no control over? For example: Your height. There's not a thing you can do about it, short or tall. It was established in...

Dedicated folks over 45 how often do you go?

Have been strength training for over a year and have settled into a three day on, one rest, then repeat cycle working a different muscle group on the active days. Example being CST then BB then Legs then Rest. But sometimes I feel sufficient mojo to cut out the rest day and start CST again and...

German Volume Training & 4th day

I have been researching German Volume Training and understand it's 3 out of 5 day split. If done properly, I shouldn't require a 4 th day of training. Currently, I have been training 4-5 days a week and was wondering what I could incorporate for a 4th day, if I decide to start this training. Maybe...

The man behind the mask

Just when you think you have seen everything, something new comes along. Guy in the gym was wearing one of these and I had to ask him what the hell the deal was. Said it mimics the effects of working out at higher altitudes and will help increase your red blood cell count. Looked goofy as hell but...

Low T help/questions

Around 18 months or so ago I went into the family doc for the checkup. Told him I didn't have the get up and go like I once did and was battling depression. He checked my blood test and said it was very low and recommended T-shots once a month. I asked if there was anything natural that would...

How many 225 lb (flat) bench press reps do you consider respectable for guys over 35?

Just curious about your opinions. I am talking flat, barbell (obviously) bench press reps, with two 45-lb plates on either side... If you were at the gym, and saw a guy, let's say late 30s through late 40s, benching 225 for reps, how many consecutive reps would make you say, that guy is pretty...

Left and Right Growth?

Hi all, I know this is an age old problem, but although I am making great gains in muscle, my left arm is quite a lot bigger than the right, in the triceps area. I know some people say it will catch up, but is it worth doing some single arm routines after training both? Cheers David

Training less?

Just throwing this out there as it's crossed my mind lately. I train with a 4 day split, pull/push/legs/arms and whatever else I feel is lacking. Occasionally I'm forced to take a week off due to work schedule and I've noticed that coming back after that week off I tend to be a bit stronger than...

Sudden intense headache while training last night

Just checking to see if anyone has heard of this or had any similar experience: Last night I was doing a set of 20-rep squats, which I've been doing as part of my training for the last couple of months. I had moved up in weight, and it was very intense at the end of the set, and BOOM I got hit with...

high rep/low weight thoughts

seen some negative comments about low weight and higher rep training. I am not into debating this, but have some obsevations I would like to share. Lets consider any exercise, with certain weight moved 10 times say, 40 pounds curled 10 times. Now, if I drop the weight by 30%, but in the same time...

Squat advice

I can't seem to do squats correctly. For years I stayed away from squats cause I never nailed the proper form. I have super hight arches in my feet so probably that's why my ankles are not that flexible. That means when I duck I seem to lean forward and that's a no no. Any thoughts???

When progression is no longer possible

Ironwill, one of the more respected posters in this forum, has often pushed the idea of progression and it's probably the best advice anyone could give. In the beginning stages of bodybuilding up until you've just about reached your genetic potential, the idea of more weight, more reps, and...

I assume a caloric deficit is NOT good for recovery - right?

I developed the dreaded tennis elbow about 2 1/2 months ago, so I took a break from playing tennis and all upper body work about 2 1/2 months ago. I used this time to work on my legs and cardio, and also lost about 8 lbs using the standard ~500 per day calorie deficit. Went out and played tennis...

Something new
