Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Eating carbs late is working for me.

Might be onto something that works for me. As few carbs as possible before pre workout meal at 1530 and then a good amount of carbs later in the day. Max 150/day on a 2000 cal/day diet. I'm eating fat and protein rich whole foods up until to pre workout oats and whey. Eggs, nuts, lean meat,...

Exertion Headaches...anyone gone through this?

I got one in a big way about 3 leg workouts ago. I felt them a little on upper body days, but the two subsequent leg days I felt them in a big way. This morning I was lying on my gym floor holding my temples waiting for the pain to go away. After that, I had to look it up to see what I had,...

An excercise in reality and perhaps some motivation.

For one minute think about how many people you know that have made the commitment to get fit and eat better. Think about seeing them look so much better, when you noticed, what was it that made you notice? Then think about how many of them maintained there condition. How many slid back in to bad...

Lateral delts....what's your thoughts?

So how do you hit your lateral delts? As far as isolations, me dumbell raises, low pulley raises low weight 8 - 10 reps usually have give me descent results. I hit them indirectly on shoulder presses other compounds etc...like the rest of us. I see others at gym jacking up 80 lbs dumbells all...

That first DB press rep...

So I am about 1 1/2 years out from a major shoulder surgery of a torn bicep tendon (now fused to my upper arm bone), bone spurs removed, clavicle ground to make more room in the joint space. I have recovered very well for the most part with just slightly less strength in that shoulder vs the non...

Should muscles be worked together as groups?

I don't know if the title accurately describes my question, but I was curious to find out the opinions of people here about doing excercises that repeatedly hit the same muscles. For example, doing bench press and then following it up with tricep kickbacks or something similar that targets the...

What are your macro percentages?

Just curious what everyone's macro percentages are. I use percentages because I'm not specifically relating it to cutting or bulking. Should your macros change or overall cals for cutting/bulking? I've settled on 40%Carbs/30%Protein/30%Fat This seems to be working for me as far as having...

I'm sure many remember the thread last year in the Misc that scooter or whatever started. Anyway I think we should do another one for anyone wanting to participate. Max Your Front Squat

Front squat is a staple lift for weightlifters. It is to clean and jerk what rice is to Asians. You take rice away and you will feel the wrath and fury of over a billion pissed off and hungry Asians. With the popularity of CrossFit, more and more people are front squatting. Even on the...

Barbell training when you reach 50+

Is it still doable? I know a lot of older guys in my gym who can no longer do them because their body wont let them. Also whenever I see a video of Arnold training all he does is use machines when he used to love barbell training in his prime

I picked up a couple rolls this week. For the old pros in here that have been using this do you have any tips for use. I am wrapping knees, elbow, etc. I have watched tutorials on it on YouTube, and rogue. I know how to wrap. I guess the thing I am confused on is how long do you leave...

Muscle Building over 40

By Scott Miller MYTH: A man over 40 years old can no longer build muscle. Granted, at 40 years old, men usually have less testosterone in their systems, but we can still build muscle. It just takes a bit more persistence and hard work. If you read all the muscle mags and try to...

Does the age part of the body fat scale apply?

Just wondering if you are working towards getting lean with diet along with your weight training do you have to ad extra bf points based on your age or is it something like the BMI that doesn't account for the extra muscle you have and that you are exceptionally lean for your age group?

This is for octogenarians

I turned 80 last week. It has been 13 years since I started the workout regimen that I have continued until now. I had done some workouts at home with weights back in the 90's and was really very fit. But for a few years I got very busy with my teaching duties and was not consistent. Then in 2002 I...

Hello all, Over 40 now and decided to do a medical check up and check pretty much everything. I have always been a hard gainer so I was not super surprised to hear that my only issue was low testosterone. I am still within the acceptable levels for my age but I am on the low end of it. i...

Pain with behind the head press

I would love to do this exercise for what it's intended for. Just starting doing these, started light, and worked on form and have now added weight. As I add weight this "issue" presents. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what? I am starting with the barbell on the floor. I...

Dumbbell lunges...you think they are worth it?

I noticed in my gym at least the times I go, nobody does weighted lunges, or lunges period. I try to get at least 4 sets weekly, of one or another of lunges. Imo hits quads, hamstrings and glutes so well, very underrated. Yes I know they are considered, not a important exerscise, but I am so sore...
