Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official O35 Squat Competition Thread

OK, some discussions in the open forums and in PMs have resulted in this thread. The Deadlift thread has been a lot of fun and inspired some great lifting and improvement, so we're going to do the same with squats. Post your intention to join the comp, and post your entries with a clear video...

Need advice from the vets

I'm in the skinny fat area and can't decide if I have time to bulk for two months then cut in two months before soccer starts. I'm 5 '8 153 pounds and around 14% body fat. Should I skip bulking this year and should I just cut now and be ready for soccer when it comes? Also I have pretty bad bloat...

Angry I HATE Trigger Points

Getting frustrated here. I've been dealing with a few stubborn trigger points for going on 2yrs now. I've been out of the gym since May trying to let my body just settle down. Things have improved but they are still there. Massage therapy, self-massage, Yoga, hot baths, acupuncture all help but...

Progress after 2 years 5 months

I started weight training and permanent change in diet in May 2014, when I was 47. My wife showed me a picture of myself sitting down, and I was shocked that I looked so fat (what you think you look like and what you actually look like can be two completely different things..) This is that...

Question Can't seem to get enough sleep.

I've been doing the SL 5x5 program for a couple of months now. I've made some decent progress in strength and managed to gain roughly 15lbs. I look forward to working out and have def got myself into a groove, but am always tired. If I stop I want to fall asleep. I've tried sleeping more, I've...

Over 50 seniors. What lifts have you dropped?

Dropped as in stopped doing because you felt unsafe doing them or were not recovering well. I'm seriously considering dropping squats all together. I've taken a break from them the last 3 weeks and I feel a lot better for it. I did squats on fridays because they left me really sore the whole...

Frustration and feeling desperate

Good evening all, First of all, the reason I chose "Over Age 35" thread is because, recently I follow nearly all of the threads here and the wisdom and experience in this section reminds me Alan Parsons Project---"Old and Wise" track. It is like a Jack London book that all chapters are much more...

Where to start 531...

So in an earlier thread I mentioned how I keep injuring my back and a hip with deadlifts. I go along well for a while, then have to stop and lose most if not all of my progress. I've had a spine fusion and may be developing arthritis in the hip, not sure yet but the doc says lifting should be OK....

Could my lower back really be this much weaker than everything else?

I had a summer away from lifting since i was working 14-hour days on festivals/events. Lived on energy drinks and food that i don't even want to remember. Now i've been going back to gym for about a month. My bench has stayed pretty much the same ( i lift feet up only, i like it more), but DL,...

Low Testosterone

I'm 38, 225lbs 5' 10", been tired and fat for years, started lifting 3 years ago thinking getting active and strong would fix my health problems to no avail. Definitely stronger and healthier, but still napping every chance I get. Finally got fed up and went to the doc for a lab screening this...

What's my bodyfat %?

Haven't had one of these in a while.... Did a mini-cut and dropped about 10lbs. Will resume bulking shortly. Funny how dieting makes you look bigger. Guessing 11-13%.

Three weeks ago I set a PR in pushpress (355) and bench (495). For the last three weeks,315 pp and 425 bench are tough. Not sure what's going on. I've even backed off the weight to rest. #illfigureitout

DOMS Recovery... Is it best to wait before lifting again?

Long story short, I had a good first workout after recovering from a bicep tear from 6 months ago. I had a long break that I couldn't avoid. With that said, I got back into the swing of things the other day and put in some work with a big three workout. It went well and I'm back in the saddle now....

Starting to feel my age and loss of motivation

I think the main issue here is that I have been lifting 3-6 days per week since 2005, so 11 years. Im turning 38 next month and I just don't seem to have the motivation to continue so rigidly at lifting. Results have gotten harder to attain since im so adapted to lifting, my joints are getting...

Help with chest - Pics

Should Impingement Surgery?

Hello all, was wondering if anyone has had shoulder impingement surgery? I'm on the books to have this done as I've been experiencing pain in the front of my shoulder for about 3 months. Started out trying a cortisone shot to the shoulder which did nothing and then followed up with 7 weeks of...

Stranger things in my thigh ;)

I've had this bizzare sensation in my "side" quads or IT band maybe since I started working out about a year ago. It's a specific area of muscles that I can mark with a pen and determine clear and constant boundaries. I don't remember how it happened. I just felt it one day. It's a feeling that...

Dealing with Injury - over-doing-it

I am starting week 3 of the shortcut to size routine. This is also the beginning of week five of solid lifting. I am dealing with a few minor injury type issues now. First, I had a little bit of elbow pain from before I was lifting. It was just minor joint pain, and I just pushed through it. ...
