Sticky Thread Sticky: American Ninja Warrior

Got cleared for "social media" by American Ninja Warrior. I'm competing in the (once secret) Military Episode in June (in California). I'm going to kick arse and try to win the 1 million dollar prize money for Shriners Hospital. I'm also raising money for them (not for me) so no matter...

Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Are You Over 50, Inspirational Man or Woman.

Hey there. As we get older, we notice (unfortunately) that our bodies aren't the same as they were when we were 30. Or are they? Some of us have lived a healthy and fit lifestyle with such dedication and consistency that we look nearly the same over 50 as when we were 30. If this sounds like you, I...

Compression shirts

Hi all, I don't usually post as my days are pretty busy (work, home, partially disabled wife) but I have a question that may seem kind of silly but I have to ask: Is wearing a compression shirt kind of douchy to wear at the gym? Now these are shirts with superman, batman, etc logos on them...

Carbs and or gross for fat loss and lean mass?

I'm looking to cut body fat; I'm reading the stickies in nutrition, but if anyone has time/thoughts on the following, I'd appreciate reading them: 1. When counting calories, do you typically count the net after subtracting calories burned (according to my heart rate monitor) or just count the...

Counting reps.. Mind game

When I get to the last set and am pretty fatigued I will count, 1,2,3,4,1,2,1,2 instead of counting straight to 8. Sounds retarded but somehow it feels easier to get the 8 reps in. Anyone else do this?

Anyone train "instinctively"?

Was watching this vid of Mark McGrath. He says "I don't really count sets I just keep going until I feel like I'm done". I've been doing high rep/low weight stuff the last 6+ weeks (in conjunction w/my cut) and I have to say that it is very debilitating mentally to have every set/rep very...

Low energy solutions

I've been trying to get back into a good workout routine for some time now. Despite having a busy schedule, and other factors that could cause one to get sidetracked in their workout goals, my biggest hurdle to success right now seems to be lack of energy or low energy, especially later in the day...

Suck at pullups

I cannot do more than 3 pullups chin over the bar. Been working on them for a couple of months but not getting any progression. I do them on back day once a week but can only do about 5x5 with assistance band. My deadlift is at 250x3 rep max. My BB row is at 155x3 rep max and I can do rack pulls...

How to approximate rings without rings for pullups?

Title.... Elbows and shoulders have been hurting from weighted pullups. My gym doesn't have rings, so does anyone have a work around to mimic rings without the actual rings? Was kinda thinking the cable cross over handles somehow... Thoughts?

An example that may encourage others

Training With Low Back Pain - Your Thoughts

So I have frequent low back pain. I know through PT that I have a chronically tight Quadratus Lumborum and have a regimen for working on getting it to release. Some days are better than others but it hasn't felt 100% in close to a year now. I've avoided doing deadlifts and bent over rows because...

New member here, will introduce myself

Hello, new member here. I'll introduce myself and tell a little history about myself. I am 6'2" tall and have always been what I think of as sort of lean with a body weight of about 180-190 lbs. Lowest it ever was during my hardest running years of my mid-late 20's was 177 lbs and the heaviest I...

Is the Paleo diet good for bodybuilding?

Hi all, I was just wondering if any of you knew much about the paleo (caveman) diet? I have been following it pretty close for a couple of weeks and it seems like a not to bad fitness/bodybuilding diet. Basically it is lots of lean protein, veggies, fruits and good fats. I have pretty much cut out...

My uncle wants to get in shape but he's a truck driver

Hello older folks, first time here. My uncle is 44 and he just divorced(his wife was a gold digger sloot) and now he wants to get in shape. He's 5'8, around 175lb with a gut, skinnyfat type. Problem is, he's a truck driver and he's home 2 weekends a month. When he's home I'll got to a gym...

Strenth training at 55

I am a female and 55 years old. I want to start strength training. Got a complete okay from my doctor and my bloodwork is excellent. He suggested circuit training, but I have no idea where to start. I have a home gym with a dip station and some free weights and a bench. No barbell though. I...

How to encourage an overweight wife

My wife about two years ago - before I met her - had trimmed down 65 pounds and was quite trim and slender (from the pictures of her I've seen - yowza!) However, the weight crept back up for her and now, she's gained back about 40 pounds of it. She did lose some since then, but she still needs to...

Training when I do not feel like it

Hey Guys, I was at the gym doing chest yesterday and was really not feeling it. So, I went down in weight and way up in reps. I ended up having a great workout. I used to forego the gym if I felt weak or not motivated. But it looks like changing around my workout on those days is one way to get...

Has anyone ever done a little bit every day, rather than fullbody 3 x's/week?

Hi, I seem to run out of time I don't like missing a workout but I have been lately, due to the need for sleep and everything else. I'm thinking of just doing two or three exercises (three or four sets) each day, rather than the three or four times/week I have been doing for...
