Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Sticky Thread Sticky: American Ninja Warrior

Got cleared for "social media" by American Ninja Warrior. I'm competing in the (once secret) Military Episode in June (in California). I'm going to kick arse and try to win the 1 million dollar prize money for Shriners Hospital. I'm also raising money for them (not for me) so no matter...

Sticky Thread Sticky: O35 Official Deadlift Competition Thread

Since we lost the last deadlift competition thread, it's time for a new one. Ideally we can get this stickied, and get some mod reps for the weight class winners. I'll be checking the contest regularly to update standings. Since the thread may last longer than a year, we can declare winners at...

men's gym fashion - pt 2 - compression shirts

Given the great amount of opinions shared on pt 1 (compression shorts), I'm going to continue the series on compression shirts. OK to wear at the gym (without another shirt on top) if you've got the body for it, or same as wearing a sign reading "look at my fabulous pecs!"? I'll fess up that...

How I transitioned to morning lifting

I asked a while back if anyone had tips on how to start training in the morning. I started and failed a lot of times but it finally stuck, I have not missed a scheduled workout in over a month which is the most consistent I have been in over a year. Here is the process I went through if anyone is...

WTF, breaking parallel on the Squat!

Been watching some Power Lifting meets recently. 99% of lifters don't break parallel. In fact my coach told me I was squatting to deeply, told me to learn how to make it appear Im just at parallel. Supposedly this is sought after to train close or at Parallel.

Alcohol

So I'm just starting my weight loss/transformation journey (again) (for the last time), and part of my program was to go the first 30 days without alcohol, as a way to simply reset and detox my body and to help instill good habits in myself. Now I'm not sure that will be possible due to a client...

Plan to get rid of loose skin by losing....MUSCLE!!!

Hi all, Sorry my first post has to be a heretical one!! I am a long-time on-off bodybuilder since the 80's, but have never cut down below 30%o . I am currently 260Ibs with about 50Lbs to lose before I get to 10%. At age 47 the skin will be quite slow to retract, so at 210Lbs lean I...

Doc wants me on statins. LDL-P is 2518. Is BBing over for me?

My LDL-P is 2518. Other labs are great. Statins seem bad for most but if I need it... I need it I guess. Muscle pain & nerve damage - often permanent. Muscle wasting. Sounds ugly. What can I expect? Is it true; lifting makes the muscle issues worse?

Hi guys, So I have been cutting since the end of February and literally could not wait to see my six pack. For those of you who don't know my routine, I'm doing a 5 day split, that includes abs on 3 days so I think I have a six pack under the 13% bf that I measured today (abs, thighs,...

Anyone here ever have or use a "Bullworker" ?

I've been watching "Bullworker" videos. I Really think i should get one. I used to have one way back in the day. Last time i used one was back in the mid-1990's. The one i had went up to 165 lbs resistance. They weigh less than 5 lbs and they're around the length of a small baseball bat so...

So many are afraid of cardio and carbs....

Getting ready for my 35th birthday. (I guess then I can consider myself un-lurked) I started off just wanting to get healthy. I quit drinking almost entirely. Stopped the fast food, and packaged BS. Then learned a little about how to actually diet, and decided to go for a sharp cut. So one...

sizing a power lifting belt

so Im starting to finally feel some back strain on stronglifts (17 weeks) and am in the market for a belt. Do I need to go on bulk to get strength back after injury?

After just starting my cut I got injured for a month. Will I get all my strength back continuing cut now that I'm better, or would it be better to do a short bulk for a few weeks to gain strength back? Cheers.

Dead Rows (video)

I have been doing what I call a "dead row" for a few months. As with the dead lift it starts from a dead stop at the bottom. This lets me take a deep breath and tighten up before the pull. Currently doing 5x5 at 120 lbs and then a 1 or 2 rep max at 150 to finish up. I see I need to keep a more...

Finally nailed a squat PR

Today I had a good lesson in the mental aspect of lifting. My previous squat best was 300 but with not so great form or depth. With ok form it was 280. I had been having some lower back pain and had to back off. I never really made it past that sticking point. Late last year I decided to take...
