On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Sticky Thread Sticky: American Ninja Warrior

Got cleared for "social media" by American Ninja Warrior. I'm competing in the (once secret) Military Episode in June (in California). I'm going to kick arse and try to win the 1 million dollar prize money for Shriners Hospital. I'm also raising money for them (not for me) so no matter...

Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official O35 Squat Competition Thread

OK, some discussions in the open forums and in PMs have resulted in this thread. The Deadlift thread has been a lot of fun and inspired some great lifting and improvement, so we're going to do the same with squats. Post your intention to join the comp, and post your entries with a clear video...

My mind is saying yes my body is saying no

Well I think I will have to take some time off the gym to give my body a big rest from doing weights. Yes it sucks, left shoulder does not feel good, forearm issues, body needs a break. Maybe from 2 weeks to a month off. I have a back up at least I can ride my bike I can still do cardio.

Which is better for hypertrophy: Power Shrug vs Strict Shrug?

I've been strict barbell shoulder shrugging (3x8) and strict dumbbell shrugging (3x14-16). In both exercises, I hold for a contraction at the top. What works to build your traps in terms of hypertrophy more? Pulling more weight or controlling lighter weight? Power or strict shrugs? ...

I absolutely hate working legs.

I've been working out regularly for about 6 months now. When I first started, I felt my problem areas were all upper body; arms, chest, shoulders. I've always had decent sized legs. I always enjoy and look forward to working out my upper body, but I detest working legs. I'm at the point now where I...

Negative gains

I've always been a reasonably fit person at 5'11". I've been into body weight circuits, high rep, low weight, for about 8 months now. I've just started with "heavy lifting", or at least for me it is, and I'm not tolerating as much weight and reps as I could at the start of my heavy lifting. I'm...
