Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Sticky Thread Sticky: O35 Official Deadlift Competition Thread

Since we lost the last deadlift competition thread, it's time for a new one. Ideally we can get this stickied, and get some mod reps for the weight class winners. I'll be checking the contest regularly to update standings. Since the thread may last longer than a year, we can declare winners at...

It's Official

Got measured by a BOD POD machine today. 18.7% BF with a +/- 1% error. I plan to take another measurement 3 months from now. Can I get to 150 lbs and 12% BF by then? Who knows. I do know I have a lot of work to do and dammit I am gonna do it!

How old should you be to begin to lift weights.....son is 12

Hey guys, My 12 1/2 year old son has expressed interest in lifting, puberty has hit, and I think it is time. I was always told 14, but maybe 13? Feedback would be great, facts would be as well

Extremely frustrated...

So I'm 36 now. I don't feel old mentally. Unfortunately, my body has been very uncooperative. I started trying to lift weights roughly 5 years ago. My ex and I had split up, I was fairly devastated and lacked confidence. I joined a local gym, found a personal trainer and trained for about 3...

Just getting started at age 50!

Hello everyone, just looking for a bit of support and/or advice. In the past 3 months, I've begun on a journey that will take me to the stage of Europa in Dallas for a figure competition for my first time at age 50! I started out in May at weight 150, body fat percent 27 percent, and today I'm at...

overheating during sleep?

To start, I'm only 35 not over 35 :) But for the last few years I have found I am always steaming while asleep. It's even worse now that I am concentrating on losing fat and building a good base. Almost nightly routine: Go to bed in boxers and no shirt with window open (about 60º outside...

Question Tribulus extract / supplements

Anyone have any opinions / experience on these? I was thinking I would try a tribulus supp and also take zinc / magnesium / vitamin d to make sure I'm being all I can be in the male hormone departments. I was just reading that something called "protodioscin" is actually the useful / active...

High Frequency Question

Looking for info from anyone that has run a high frequency training program for a good amount of time. Reason i am choosing this type of training: lack of time on any one given day to devote more than 45 minutes to 1 hour to training. I workout before going to work and have active job so i dont...

Ab Regimen for Dummy

Still trying to achieve the chiseled six pack. I dropped weight clear to 185 and got a pathetic four but started losing strength in lifts beyond that. Since then I'm back up about ten pounds and abs are slightly less defined. Talked to a PT today and with my loose skin around the middle the only...

Adding Mass (Over 50)

While I've been living at my parents house for the summer my father and I have taken to a pretty serious bulking diet. Over the past 8 weeks or so, I have put on over 10 good pounds, but my father has hardly gained at all. We have tracked his macros well and his caloric intake challenges 3000...

17% to 18% Bodyfat currently: but how to reduce lower back fat build up!!??

I've been training for about 2.5 years now; two super hard days in the gym (half body split/lots of super sets) and about 15 miles a week trail running. My goal is to simply get as lean as possible while maintaining decent form and strength; I am not a body builder and nor am I interested in...

This Week in the O35 (pics/vids)

Hey guys & gals, Can we start a revolving pic thread? I think it'd be fun if we had a "current" pic thread. Sort of a "What did you do this week?" thread. Rules: 1. Pic/Video must be of you 2. Pic/Video must be LESS than 7 days old 3. Poster must be OVER 35 YEARS OLD.

Fat loss before winter bulk

Planning to start with a PT in October for muscle growth program and I'd like to shift some fat to make a clean start. Looking at 4 week diets online, they seem to be about 1800 cals per day. But is this for average size? I'm 230 lbs. 1800 seems very little :) Cheers for any advice.

How To Measure Body Fat %

What's the best way? I only guesstimated mine here in my profile, but have no idea how accurate it is. There seem to be alot of online body fat calculators, but is there any one that you'd recommend? TIA

inspiration for 45y.o. 180cm

Hi, I'm trying to set my goals ... realistically, and I'm looking for inspiration. Have you seen any pictures of athletic bodies for someone who is average sized (like me) that is, about 180cm (6ft), 75kg (165lbs). I'm not looking for super athletes or huge muscles, just some inspiration :-)

Max squat for the first time in over 20 years (vids) New PR too!

I just wanted to see where I was because frankly, I really had no clue. I have not pushed myself because of a hip injury I suffered a while back with still bothers me. I have had to adapt to squatting fairly close to be able to do it without pain. I have gotten to where I am decently strong...

Shoulder Issues

Hi I am a 44 year old lifter. I am getting pain in my shoulders when I do manual work. Pulling and pushing heavy weights. I do lots of pressing exercise in the gym(chest, shoulder) but have neglected my rear deltoids. When I look at my profile my front delts are bigger than my rear delts, not a...

strength training vs. hypertrophy

I'm growingly frustrated at the amount of confusion over low rep/high weight vs. low weight/hi rep for gaining size. I've read alot from Medhi and Michael Matthews and like the strength training programs, but at this point I want to gain size and I've always thought that was a low weight/hi rep...

Using heavy ropes for HIIT?

I was watching a couple of guys in the gym today. They were using heavy ropes to do what appeared to be a HIIT workout. They were cycling these with kettlebell swings and step ups. I was finishing up my workout and they were out of the gym before I had a chance to ask them about what they were...

Creatine Over 40?

I took Creatine in my early 20's for a while. Now that I'm 42 and getting back into the gym, is Creatine something I should be taking? Any risk specific to age? Any benefits?

Adding chest exercises to All Pro's routine

I posted this in the Workout forum yesterday, and got no bites. Maybe the O35 crew can give me a little guidance: I'm in my 4th cycle of AllPro's Beginner Routine (squat, bench, bent over row, overhead, stiff legged deadlift, barbel curl, calf raises). I've made good gains in strength, and can...
