Arrow Sticky Thread Sticky: The Official Ov35 Bench Press Thread!

May as well throw this one out there so we have all 3 major lifts represented. :) Open to ideas as to how things should run but here's how I see it..... - must be Flat BB Bench only (using an OLY bar). No Incline Bench, Decline Bench or DBs. - Raw lifts only. No shirted benching. (wrist...

Sticky Thread Sticky: O35 Official Deadlift Competition Thread

Since we lost the last deadlift competition thread, it's time for a new one. Ideally we can get this stickied, and get some mod reps for the weight class winners. I'll be checking the contest regularly to update standings. Since the thread may last longer than a year, we can declare winners at...

Importance of measuring body fat

In the month since I started measuring my body fat again, my bodyweight has gone from 120.2 to 120.6 pounds. Little change. But my fat % has dropped from 12.3% to 10.9%. That means my body fat has dropped from 14.8 to 13.1 pounds, and my LBM has increased from 105.5 to 107.5 pounds. I’ve long said...

Question About Amino Acids And Nitrogen Support

I was in supplement store today at my local mall, and they currently have a buy one get one for a penny deal, and some of the items on sale are amino acid pills and drink mixes. But I was looking at the containers, and they said "Nitrogen Support" and I don't have a clue what that means. I haven't...

Will I ever be able to bench 225 for 10 reps naturally?

I've be training for about 14 years. I recently recovered from a shoulder injury so I'm starting back slowly. I don't train with spotters as I had bad experiences with a few of them and therefore I stop about 1 or 2 reps before failure on bench press. Before my shoulder injury I was benching 165...

Does a weekly switch between two routines make sense?

Just throwing this out there to see if anyone has tried it or if it even makes sense. There has been a lot of discussion regarding whether high reps/moderate weights or low reps/heavy weights are most beneficial to gaining strength and mass. So what if you followed a program that had you...

Goals for 2014

Hey folks, so have you thought about your goals for this year then? I'm still undecided if I will cut this year or just continue my bulk, but slow it down a bit. Will see how I feel about my body at the end of Feb which is when I would prob want to start cutting (for summer). Lifting-wise, here...

Question for men of all ages, regarding women.

I wasn't sure where to post this ha but just wanted to sidetrack a bit from bodybuilding and ask about something. A lot of men say that women lose attractiveness with age and that men generally prefere younger women. I read several sources of info online, including a thread from ages ago on this...

Getting Started

Hey guys. A little about me: I'm a 43 year old male who's never before really gotten into the fitness scene. I've been pretty active throughout my life, but nothing spectacular. That being said, I'm at the point in my life where I realize that I need to do something to keep my body in good...

Finally ... 405 d/l

After ~4 years of lifting, ~2 years of deadlifting, I hit my goal of 405x1. Not be a big number to most, but a significant pull for a guy who never set foot in a gym until he was 46 y/o. Just had to tell somebody. Thanks for listening... ;)

DOFS after 40

So this is the first time I've been 40 and I'm experiencing a ton of DOF. Granted I had a pretty bad motorcycle accident a few years back where I broke my wrist and had some back issues including a hemoraged disk and impingement in my neck and shoulders. But I have been lifting my entire life and...

Can't get over that plateau

Hey all. Ok, going to sound lame, but I've plateaued for the past 10 years. I basically know what I should be doing to gain mass. Problems: genetics: I have a tiny frame and also have a hard time adding good weight. Currently I'm at 135, 5'11", age 42. Diet: I'm a pescatarian, so no heaping...

Why is nearly everyone [I know] over 35 so freaking out of shape?

Once I hit 30 I began noticing my friends were complaining that they are "Getting old". Hmm, the day after we were born we were a day older than before...... Many of these same people have a row of medications they take daily because they "Need" them. I wonder how much of that perceived need is...

Feeling sick from bulking

Eating is the hard part for me but I've made considerable effort the past 6 weeks to pack down 3300 to 3700 calories per day. As far as lifts go I finally feel like I'm not moving slow and just going through slow recomps. The problem is I just feel sick, weighted down, bloated, etc. I'm not...

50 lbs lost in 3 months, now what?

AS the title says, I'm down 50# after 3 months of working out. My goal weight is to be between 195-200# and I suppose at this point, I have concerns - not about motivation, I like working out and do so nearly 4 times a week, sometimes 5 if I'm not exhausted. I've noticed a lot of good things,...

Ditched my bulking & strength training for a lean, high rep scheme

Every year for the past 4.5 years I've bulked during the winter and always gained strength as a result of increased calories. However, cutting the fat each spring has always really been a drag; cutting 20-25 lbs. each year sucks, has gotten old and ultimately results in a loss of strength....

Could you effectively grow muscle without being in a caloric surplus?

I always hit my protein macro, but I do not count my carb or fat macros. I am confident that I am not in a caloric surplus. With that being said, can you still grow muscle effectively without a caloric surplus?

Talking deadlift with or without belt?

Hey I just started lifting and have a novice question. I've heard different opinions on whether or not to use a belt with deadlifts. I've never used a belt or straps as I am following Mike O'hearn's school of thought that the body will adapt and grow stronger without a belt or straps. My...

Am I doing HIIT properly?

Hi all, I'm 36 and recently (a few days ago) I embarked on a simple HIIT program. Some people have mentioned that the best way to measure intensity is its effect on heart rate, so I have a heart rate monitor chest strap to help me. Apparently, due to my age, my max heart rate is around 184bpm...
