Thumbs up Sticky Thread Sticky: This week in the O35 II

On this day BLK00TJ is competing at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic State Championships and Military Nationals. I've competed alongside this lifter and his squat is nothing short of elite. Yesterday I had a few surprise PR's in the gym (sorry no pics or vids) Barbell Bench 265 x 6, Dumbells 110's x 9,...

Got cleared for "social media" by American Ninja Warrior. I'm competing in the (once secret) Military Episode in June (in California). I'm going to kick arse and try to win the 1 million dollar prize money for Shriners Hospital. I'm also raising money for them (not for me) so no matter...

Bought oly shoes - squat went down

I know I have to adjust to the new mechanics but as a high bar / flat foot squatter I figured it wouldn't be too hard 405 wasnt so hard, so I figured I'd try a triple with 455 I got 455 x 2 roughtest paused reps I've done in months, I toppled forward bigtime on the last rep and 'backed' it up...

body fat measuring is a joke

I find the whole process of quantifying the level of body fat being carried a bit humorous. People get very caught up in an exact number despite the ability to measure it being fairly inaccurate in most cases. Anyone else tired of how non specific body fat measures really seem to be? I have...

Strength and fat loss?

Is it possible to gain strength while losing fat? I've searched and am aware that it is not possible to lose fat and gain muscle mass. I am asking because that is what I'd like to do if possible. Goals: 16% BF while having my numbers go up in deadlift bench and squat I'm currently low to mid...

Closing your eyes when lifting

My back is blowing up big time and I'm attributing it most to closing my eyes during back exercises. It helps me to make a more 'mind/muscle' connection when lifting ensuring it's more of a back exercise versus a bicep exercise. Anyone else close their eyes while doing certain lifts?

Is lifting "heavy" the best way to progres? A continuation of training based topics

I started a thread a while back about compound vs isolation, and it was nice to have some good discussion going. So now, I am going to again put out my viewpoints and say that I believe the best way to train is striving to lift heavier and heavier loads over time. I am NOT a big believer in...

If I didn't get a good night's sleep last night, can I still work out today?

Hi, Due to my new job and other responsibilities, on some nights I only get around 4 hours of sleep. If this happens (I get 4 or less hours of sleep) one night, can I still work out later on that day? Or is my body going to be in a bad state where training will just be detrimental?
