Sticky Thread Sticky: The Bench Form Thread

We see a lot of threads asking for bench form critiques on this forum. I feel like most of these threads are made because people don’t know how to critique their own form. They just don’t know what to look for. I’m hoping to narrow that gap with this thread. I’m not going to touch on everything,...

Does a 300 bench feel as intense as a 300 lb squat (for a weaker guy)?

A 300 squat won't impress anyone in this circle but you could see in my steady stream of sweat that it's damn intense. I was just curious if the bench press will also feel the same way if/when I get to that level? My bench is obviously way lower right now but I'm not sure if that nervous system...

Advice on low-bar squat form

youtube dot com/watch?v=Y1irHqkuK4g&feature=youtu.be Beginner lifter, weigh 175 pounds, squatting 175 pounds in this vid. My initial impressions are that I'm leaning forward a bit, and am not sitting the hips back far enough leading to too much knee bend. I'm also trying to solve a problem with...

Can I get big quads just by doing front squats and leg presses?

I never liked back squats for some reason, they feel a little awkward for me. Front squats feel more natural and I enjoy doing them. Back squats look more impressive in terms of the weight you can use for them but my main goal is to just get bigger quads. Can I big quads just by doing front squats...

General qustion about tempo

So i have this question When training for Size i heard that in order for that besides the number of reps you need to keep your muscles tense during it so lifting slowly with a tempo 3 0 2 3 is the best for it. My question is for strengh is it the same tempo but since its less reps you have more...

Question Decline bench importance

Side delts

Does anyone have a miracle move for side delt growth? I feel like I have a pretty solid shoulder routine, but I just can't seem to get that definition that I'm looking for. Could be genetics as I fear I'm fairly cursed. The heaviest I can go with a side delt raise is 25 lb dumbbells. Any...

Dumbbell Row

I really don't like the one-arm dumbbell row using a bench (one bent leg on bench and the other foot flat on the floor). I have started doing bent over dumbbell rows -- both arms at the same time. Are these interchangeable in terms of the muscles worked? To be honest, I don't feel as if I'm...

Dumbbell bench path same as Barbell?

So the path for the barbell bench press is a diagonal, going from mid chest to above the shoulders. Is it the same for dumbbell? All the videos I see for a dumbbell bench has elbows flared and a vertical upwards line around the shoulder level. Cheers!

Why do so many say deadlift 1x a week? Seems way wrong

Esp. programs like stronglifts say to squat EVERY time, yet only do 1 deadlift set ONCE a week? Wth? I understand the pseudo theory of fatiguing neural drive etc but to me deadlift does not seem like its some soul breaking exercise that is can only be done once before leaving you a wreck; yet...

Not much progress on both the squat and OH Press

So, I've been struggling at trying to improve my squat for a while now. Why is it so hard to go heavy on Lat Pulldowns and T-Bar Rows with good form?

I can't go real heavy on these 2 exercises for back, it feels awkward. I can't go heavier than maybe a weight I can do 10 reps to failure with on both exercises. If I do, my form becomes quite bad. On heavy Lat Pulldowns I end up doing some form of a momentum lower back extension/pulldown hybrid....

When you push up from a squat, do you push from quads or glutes?

I have seen multiple ways people do it. Some when they push up, they scoop their butt up from the floor. Or is the push mainly in the quads?

How many people can hold a plank for 5+ min.?

Hey guys, I've recently tested my ability to hold an elbow plank for as long as I can. I was able to hold it for over 5 min. with good form at least a few times. my body and heavy front squats

Hello. My first post here. I've been using New Rules of Lifting: Supercharged for about 3.5 months. I've finally gotten into Hypertrophy I and I'm going to have a heavy squat day on Saturday. Previously, I have done 60 lb goblet squats for medium reps and it's time to graduate to front squats. I...

Dumbbell bench (Flat+incline), does the path of the weight go in a vertical line?

I've watched a few videos and it seems that the starting and end positions would be in a vertical line if looking at the person from the side. Does this mean that you don't move the weight forward to above your chest like in barbell bench and then back above your shoulders for the starting position...

How to do Pendlay Rows

Hi, I watched Scott Herman's video on how to do Pendlay Rows, and it seems that I'm still doing it wrong. Where should the bar rest when doing front squats with the clean grip?

Due to lack of mobility, I've been doing front squat using the cross arm grip only, with bar resting on the delts and touching the neck. Today after strenching for months I decided to try the clean grip again, but I still couldn't perform it while holding the bar in the position as when doing cross...

Lightbulb Pushups don't add mass!

This is a lie. Without going into too much detail, I've spent a lot of time incarcerated and I simply know for a fact that a lot of men who have no access to supplements or workout equipment pickup considerable size doing pushups.. 500 a day is common. Why all the hate directed towards good...

How many pull-ups equal one muscle up.

Ok, so I'm wondering. About how many pull-ups should you be able to do, before you are able to do one muscle up? Now, I know muscle ups work a lot more muscles than just what pull-ups do, but I just want a rough idea of where I should be at before I can do muscle ups. Right now, I can do about...
