Eating more fats, does it matter?

Does it really matter how much fat you have in a day as long as your getting enough protein and hitting your calories? 20-30% of calories seems to be the most recommended daily intake, but would it really matter if you went over this (say 40-50%) with the rest coming from protein and carbs?

Gained alot of WEIGHT and INCHES to my Waist in the first week of a bulk.
