Question Female who doesn't want a big vastus medialis

Hi, I am a female more trying to achieve the 'fitness model' look rather than a pro bodybuilder look. In particular I don't want the large swollen vastus medialis on myself. Thus I am afraid of the leg extension machine. I am aiming more for the long lines of a rollerblader's leg. Any advice on what exercises to do in the gym for great legs that do not swell up the area just above the knee? Thank you.

Your best bet would to not even set foot in the gym because one wrong move and you might end up looking like this

8 years ago, I did one too many reps on the leg extension and my vasitlitimus medalimus immediately grew 10x bigger. still trying to get it back down to at least the size of Coleman's (in his prime).

    stay safe.

Close stance high bar squats wih knees tracking forward tends to build the knee are (look at olympic weightlifter legs). Try low bar wide stance squats with less knee tracking forward. Build up to a weight that results in the size/shape/"tone" you want your legs to have then maintain at that.

Jesus christ this advice is actually 100 % legit. I completely expected an entire thread of broscience/nonsense retard-logic answers but you, sir, actually do possess a fully functioning brain. Repped.

Do 5 sets of 2 on the leg extension, minimal weight.

Also, do rear glute spreads. They'll work the vastus indirectly

My left "vastus medialis" I underdeveloped and weak, the physio thought it was partially to blame for blowing out my knee and taking so long to recover. The imbalance was from skateboarding a lot as a teen. I wouldn't suggest you purposely try to keep them underdeveloped. How big they end up getting is mostly going to come down to genetics anyway.

My right one is significantly smaller than my left. Probably from injuring the tendon when I was a kid.
