You guys take losing to Branch as an insult. No mention has been made of Dexter Jackson placing ahead of Ramy as being a bad thing. Dexter is outmassed even moreso than Branch by Ramy but you probably like Dexter so it doesn't make you mad.

Agreed. On a related note, I had Dexter placing higher because his conditioning was awesome.

Again, hard for me to pick between Branch and Ramy because it's apples and oranges. Branch was CLEARLY more conditioned, and significantly so, but Ramy has a more aesthetically pleasing physique and is bigger. Still, it's hard to reward someone *that* soft on the Olympia stage. Ramy's quads were the most separated they've ever been so far, but his chest was baby-soft. Weird. Not sure if he was holding water or if he was flat or something, but for whatever reason, some parts of him were sharper than we've seen while other parts (delts and chest) were softer. If you ask me, it could be a coin-toss between Ramy and Branch's placings.

And yes it could be argued that Ramy should have placed above Dex just as easily if you bring proportion, symmetry and muscularity among other "criteria" into the argument

Proportion? Excuse me? Above Dexter? Dexter has no weak points that Ramy beats him in other than sheer size, and Dexter was peeled from head to toe. He had details showing that other people simply didn't have. It's not just that Dexter was sharper - he made it looks like he plain had things that nobody else did. *That* is a result of superior conditioning *and* proportion. Every muscle round and full without looking like he has a BP oil spill going on his one of his shoulders the way Ramy does, and his chest was both full and striated (Ramy's was soft).

I like Ramy, but again, the only thing he has on Dexter is overwhelming size. When you look at Dexter, he looks like a former Mr. Olympia. Ramy could make it to the winner's circle one day, but as of right now, he's not touching Dex.

Your argument suggests you believe conditioning is greater than the sum of all other judging criteria. Besides I never said "you" forgot about them. I guess I should have said we might as well forget about them. This isn't a perfectly literal world. It's ignorant to dismiss someone's argument because you can't interpret what they say.

it depends on HOW much conditioning vs. HOW MUCH size/proportion, etc. It's a tradeoff, and all things in such matters are subjective.

Sunday Champions Seminar

Was hoping to be the first to post it, but thx for posting! It was a great seminar, and I loved Phil's answers to the questions. Despite what people on the forum say, he really does behave as a respectful (but confident) champion who gives other competitors their props. Totally agree with him about Kai, and especially Dexter (but of course, I'm biased since Dexter is the guy that inspired me most when I started following modern bodybuilding in the early 2000's). Dexter is literally a living legend. Lol'd at Phil's and Dexter's impersonation of each other as well.

Just try it. But you know you cant, cause there is so much FACTS and arguments in Kai direction !!!
Relaxed or not, Phil was pregnant probably by someone of the judges or the commentator .... And lets not forget all crap talk you Phil Heath fans talk about Kai gut before the Olympia and how he should not win cause of his gut .... This is laughable.
And Ramy dwarf Phil big time. Even if my pic is zoomed i post it from Ramy thread, the Roro one it isnt.

Phil and Kai were both off. Kai was just less off than he was last year. He was sharper at the 2009 Arnold Classic (but his proportions are better now cus he's brought up his delts and traps), and he was way better in 2012. Again, 2012 Kai probably would've won the Olympia this year.

No i wont. Im tired of Phil cheats and gifted wins also, but what i can do ? If you dont like my opinion and posts just skip it. Nobody forcing you to read them !!!

None of Phil's wins have been gifts, imo, but he's had some really close calls like the AC Spain (wouldn't bother me at all if Kai won that show), 2012 (again, coin toss between him and Kai that year), and this year's Olympia.

I don't want to get involved in these internet fights, but Heath won. In 2012 I had Kai winning, but not here. Kai has that "smooth" look and looking at the pics, he is often caught not posing. His right shoulder looks gone, something not right with his left tricep, it doesn't seem that he can properly show cuts in his chest in the mm, in the back relaxed it almost looks like his arms are too long, etc.

Heath still has those balloon muscles. More separation in his thighs, round shoulders and full triceps and he is Mr Olympia. To me he wasn't knocked out at all.

People keep asking for pics and then post pics of Phil not fully hitting the pose yet. The video is more telling (granted, it was low quality at times). I was at prejudging in person, and the huge screens they have inside the arena had high quality video so that you didn't even have to look on stage, but either way, it was really obvious in there that Phil had more detail than Kai. Kai's upper back looked soft in the back double biceps, which is really uncharacteristic of him. And at times, Kai's quads lacked their signature separation. He did get better as the show went on, but it wasn't enough, imo. They both improved for the finals.

The best honest opinion I read on this thread so far..

I was watching the live stream and all the photos posted time by time and concluding the same but to my surprise everybody praising Kai's superior conditioning owning Phil etc which I didn't spectate at all specially in PJ and everybody was like KAI is a clear cut winner & I was like Phil vs Rhoden could be a better comparison..

Great lineup this year! I was disappointed with Toni West placing last (she was 4th last year) because she brought pretty much the same package as last year...but that's just how much the competition improved this year! DLB nailed her conditioning, but Juliana edged her out with better proportion and full, round muscle bellies. All the girls looked amazing!

Karina Nascimento, Juliana Malacarne, and Sabrina Taylor all improved a bunch for this show compared to last year.

It was a great seminar, befitting the 50th anniversary.

I am very proud of my athlete Baito Abbaspour. He's been competing since April this year to qualify for the Mr Olympia. After 4 shows in Tampa me, Baito and Mohamed who is Baito's friend had a good conversation where we promised each other to give 100% for the Olympia to make sure we will nail the condition to make sure he would be competitive. I'm proud and happy for Baito because we nailed it. He placed top 5 in a very strong lineup and will for sure next year push even further to move up the ranks. Baito will now continue to Korea and Praque. Let's kill it champ!!

finally got around to watching the replays so here are my thoughts/opinions

prejudging i had Kai Dennis Phil Rhoden
it just seemed like no one 100% this year
Idk what happend to Roelly.... even though he looked better the second night

the whole Kai Phil thing was close i would have liked to see Kai win his first on the 50th and i think it would have added more fuel to the rivalry as 3 and 1 sounds better then 4 and 0
Kai wins from the back
Rhamy and Branch should have switched spots even though i heard branch had crazy conditioning from people who were there

The crowd didnt like the Wolf placing but Rhoden had improved alot more then last year and it seemed like the judges rewarded that throughout the competiiton this year via branch rhamy..
Bonac got screwed


they need to give the guys more time to hit the poses as well it felt rushed this year ... also they need to stay on stage longer for the Flex off instead of immediately running into the crowd

There are similar pics to that from 2013 where we know phil was not "pregnant". So if you actually want to get your point across, show a pic where he is doing a mandatory and his gut, despite flexed, his distended and lacks detail/separation.

Its simply Phil gut was all of control and need to be mention in every thread. Thats what Phix fans deserve when they say Kai gut was worst then Phix and Kai was off. And esp for all the crap talk before the Olympia about Kai gut and how Mr.Olympia should not be won by pregnant guy ....
And there is a lot of pic when Phix gut is out of control. I put enough pic in most of the thread. Also there is video you can see it clearly. Esp in the prejudging where Phil abs was not visible. In his ST pose hes gut is bad aswell. Still he won that pose.

Lol, this is getting ridiculous. People seem to have nothing better to do than point out Phil's gut in relaxed poses over and over again. Shall we bring out some pics of Coleman the GOAT who also had probably the biggest Mr. Olympia gut in the history of the sport and one of the worst midsections of all time by the time he got near the end of his career while he was still taking titles? Or Jay and his melted abs? Even Arnold had crappy abs.

Seriously, this is nonsense. Pretty abs are nice to look at, but they hold almost no value in modern Pro bodybuilding judging. There are a few poses where they do matter but those poses judge flexed abs. No judge is going to noticeably mark down a competitor when they show a little gut when relaxed. That should be absurdly, blatantly clear.

I hope you guys do understand that the gut is one of the most sensitive areas of the body and that it responds ridiculously strongly to nutrient intake? You can pretty much have Baito's abs 2 hours before a show and look like Roelly did by show-time. Mr. Olympia is not going to lose his title because of a little gut from obvious bloat that seems pretty clearly temporary.

I know those guts are not nice to look at and 99.9% of fans expect the top competitors to have lean midsections with pretty 6-8 packs, but come back down to earth. Unless the gut is hanging out 24/7 in insane proportions like Jari "Bull" Mentula, no judge will give much of a fuk.
