A powerlifting diet usually consists of butter, egg yolks, donuts, whole milk, oats, cake, cookies, lard, animals, small humans and squats.

OP, it really depends on how much weight you wanna lose. If you're trying to get down to the 181 class then you'll need to diet. If you're trying to get down to the 198 class then you can get away with some water manipulation the night before, go weigh in, then carb back up and rehydrate. you'll be good to go the next morning.
Edit: If you're coming down from 208 to 198 you may wanna shed a little fat and get down to about 203-204 before deciding to cut water. 10lbs of water may be a little too much to cut.1708 total @220 Raw

I don't doubt that it could be done, but I would be hesitant to cut that much water for fear of my performance suffering the next day because of not being able to adequately rehydrate myself. However, water is 8lbs a gallon so getting 1 1/4 gallons of fluid back in before the meet probably wouldn't be that hard to do.

It might seem like a good bit, but it really isn't. My very first strongman contest I cut 12lbs and felt stronger than I had ever been. The key is to lose the water as quickly as possible and to do so as close to weigh in time as you can. That way you're dehydrated for the least amount of time possible. Kroc wrote a really good article on cutting. He said he's cut like 30lbs before, lol. You just have to remember to keep it in the right perspective. If you're 20lbs over the weight limit, that means you're 20 heavier and therefore have that much extra mass and strength. So would it be better to stay closer to the class max, or to be well above and cut more? I think it would be much better to take the cut route.
