im just wondering, i can do 5+ reps of 65lbs on the preacher curl with perfect form. that means when i do it i bring the bar all the way down until my arms are straight and then i bring the wait back up without moving anything but my forearms. then i bring the weight back down slowly and repeast. is this perfect form?
becuz the thing is, i have 14 inch biceps flexed (no im not fat) and i see other that are about my size doing like 95lbs but their form isn all that great. they bring the weight about halfway.
im just wondering what tru perfect form for preaher curls is. i watched some videos and even saw pros moving all about as they preacher curled. they would arc their back and kinda swing their shoulders

i really hate seeing people forcing a whole set of preacher curls on a weight they obviously cant do. i also saw a guy doing 105 that was about my size bicep wise, he had wack form. arched his back and swung his shoulders. then i saw another guy that was bigger than me doing 85lbs, which was his max, with perfect form. im confusedLast edited by BEhave; 10-20-2006 at 01:50 PM.

hey.
for me, perfect form.. like going about 3/4 way down.. not totally straight.. but not half way either.. totally worked for me... my biceps get really sore and i can just really feel the work out
as to bench press, i try to close my shoulder blades together and puff out my chest a lil bit... bring it all the way down to your chest (don't bounce it off tho)

i do not do preacher curls but have seent the pictures you posted but on the regular biceps curl i know you are not supposed to go all the way down or up because i've read it in many orthopaedics, scholarly articles, and official guide book to weightlifting at my library. I've read that it tears the muscle too much and can lead to serious damage and more. your supposed to find a certain spot just before that "line" and bring the bar back up at that spot. also if it is heavy weight you can damage your lower back by bringing it all the way up this is obvious.

re
as above, the worst thing to do with preacher curls is to fully straighten your arms. Simply lower them as far as you can without completly straightening them. Fully straigthening them puts pressure on your elbow tendons and ligaments, and gives your biceps a rest, which you dont want.

I believe I have perfect form
Started at like no weight to master the form
just resisting down slow and getting the full range of motion with both right and left equal
I love seeing 90% of people having terrible form just to do more weight, meanwhile they arn't even getting the body part they want to work outKG

You know what...any exercise that forces yourself to really just limit your strength, and use less weight is bad.
Do: hammer curls, alt. db curls, barbell curls
and since this thread got hijacked and now your talkign about benchpress. Putting your legs on the bench limits your strength too... its bad and stupid.I have seen a lot and I mean a lot of people in the gym and on these internet forums that are a buck 65 or two and change, shouting that you don’t have to lift heavy to get big

Its ok to cheat a little bit. But only if you start cheating at rep 6-8 and on your second set atleast. If you start cheating at rep 3-4 obviously the weight is too much for you. I believe cheating helps push your muscle to the limit, that's why even ronnie coleman cheats on his last few reps!!!
I want to look like Stan McQuay
