As you can tell in my stats, I am a pretty good athlete for being just a sophomore in high school, and I have worked hard for that. I'm friends with one guy in 8th grade who decided to try out for football, and did pretty good this year. They started lifting weights in November, and when he started he was benching 185, squatting 265(as first maxes those are incredible), and running a 4.9 40.. Since then he's improved to a bench of 225, squat of 335, and now runs a 4.7, which is insane for a 170 lb 14 year old!
Lol knowing that when I was at that stage, I was benching 165 and squatting 275 and ran a 5.5...He has amazing potential.
Does anybody else know anybody like this? I also know 1 guy who is about 6' 210 lbs, maybe 8% bf, and his diet consists of McDonalds for 2-3 meals a day.

Fact # 1
Age is a pointless statistic. Some 13 year olds have more advanced puberty than some 17 year olds. That's why it annoys me when people post "OMG hez 13 yearz old!!!!!!111" All that matters is lifting experience and bodily maturity.
Fact # 2
Starting means nothing. What will determine his destiny is how he'll end up. I knew a bunch of people that were benching in the 200's freshman year, I did 135. Now i'm closing in on 400 before senior season and they're still under 300.
BUT if he stays motivated, he will do some damage. If he has early puberty though, his gains may slow soon.

Yeah, it really is about where you end up, not where you start.
Some people are lazy and extremely gifted genetically, and do well. Some people work their asses off and aren't that gifted, and do well. Then there are the rare few that have the genetics and the work ethic...about half of those end up playing professionally.

he's about average developmental wise...No facial hair and I don't think he shaves..It just amazes me that his very first bench max was 185 when most people start with half of that. I've only met one other person to start out that high with no previous lifting experience, and he was 16 years old with a beard.

I deny genetic limitations of any kind...although I know they're there, I keep telling myself that I'm not going to be able to use genetics as an excuse, because if I keep doing that I won't end up anywhere.

my freshman year we had i think 5 freshmen benching over 185, so i guess you don't have a lot of talent in your area if you've never seen a kid that strong. where do you live?

All that McDonald's will catch up to him by the time he's in his 30s. Don't worry that your metabolism isn't as fast as his because he will pay for it later in life.

I live in Alabama, and yes there is plenty of talent down here. As of now, we have atleast 10 freshmen who can bench 185, and 6-7 sophomores who can bench 250(including myself). It's not the actual weight that is so impressive, it's the fact that he did 185 at a weight of about 150-160 with ZERO former lifting experience.
