I think they've only prosectued an extremely small number of people, and this is just in the US I think, and the people they've targetted have been the people who download in massive quantities ie. like 100 000 songs on their comp.
For average guys like you and me with like 800 songs on the computer I don't think you have to worry about it. Record companies need to suck it up and face that facts that in this modern technological age its going to be impossible protect copyrighted forms of media.

Does anyone feel bad that they are robbing people? As a musician, the lack of respect for copyright basically is like having people spit on my face. People work hard to bring that music to you and ask that you pay for their services just like anyone else does in a functioning economy (pay money for goods and services which in this case is writing music and recording cds) and you turn around and take their music for free *illegally* just because you can get away with it. Yeah, cds can be expensive, but there are 99 cent downloads and no one is forcing you to buy them.
Let the excuses come, I have heard them all and have probably said some of the same things myself at one time. I have yet to hear a legitimate excuse for illegally downloading copyrighted music to keep instead of purchasing the music. As long as you do this, I ask that none of you complain about having anything stolen from you because then you would be hypocritical.

We have been getting ripped off for to long, if i like your music i might buy the cd.......upload a track and we will see.
And i am also a part-time DJ.....and i agree with the sentiment that music should be made available to anyone, and those wishing to listen to it should not get bummed out.
If you feel like you are getting a raw deal, talk to your record company,..Must rep 3VANGELIST three times!

There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of people downloading music and other media illegaly. It will be the next ice age before they can bust everyone. So basically I dont think they are gonna bust people

Yes, musicians make a lot if not most of their money from live shows. That doesn't mean the record companies are evil and don't have a right to make money for the service they provide. (making recordings of the musicians' music)
I will be uploading some music pretty soon that I have recently gotten copyrighted. I will probably provide it for free, but if I want to charge, I have a right to, and people don't have a right to take my music from me without my permission without paying if I ask them to pay. That is my point and that right should be respected.

Yes, record companies get most if not all the money from cd sales, but do they not have a right to? They are a business who provides a service, if you don't like it, don't buy from them. That doesn't mean steal from them instead. You can't do this with anything else, so why music?

Is that supposed to mean that because someone is rich, it is ok to steal from them? If the record companies make a lot of money, then it is ok to steal from them? I mean, just because a person or company has a lot of money doesn't mean they don't have right to not be stolen from.
I know the episode was to supposed address the idea the copyright violation is going to happen no matter what and musicians should make music just for the love of the art, but people are forgeting that basic principles and the right of intellectual property are at stake here.

This is a very rare incident, but my friend was dumb for doing it. He was a senior in Highschool, going to college the next year, and was flat broke, his parents werent gonna pay for his college, so he wanted to make some quick money. He bought a ton of blank Cds, and a Cd case maker, stuff like that, and started carrying around all of the hot cds, new ones, ones that were going to come out, burned movies, all of this stuff was burned and illegal. We were waiting outside school at the RTD bus stop, and waiting for the bust to come, when a police officer started to come over. Right when my friend was selling something. My friend covered up the sale fast, but the police oficer announced to everyone who was at the bus stop that there was a person that was illegally burning, downloading and distributing cds, and that he willl be cought. Everyone laughed, except my friend. The next day at school, the cop came into his third period class which is science ( im in that class with him) and called him over and they arrested him. He later found out that he was going to jail for 1 year, with 3 years probation just for all of that. They accused him of stealling over $25,000 in music, and cd sales. Just another reason to not do dumb ****.
