    Smile My Weight Loss

    Greetings,

I've been lurking on the forums since forever and finally, mustered the courage to post. Just sharing my story, if anyone is interested.

Maybe I should start with some background info. I am 5'3-5'4" (give or take an inch), so I'm relatively short. Ever since I was young I faced the battle of the bulge. I've always been the "short fat kid" in every class (it was rough). I think at my peak, I was probably 215lbs at 5'4" (Summer 2004) and just graduated college. College was crazy, always not having a lot of money and eating whatever I could (ramen, dozen donuts for 4 dollars, general tso, etc). Not exactly sure what my BF was, but it was relatively very high (I was wearing XL-XXL and 36x32/38x33 pants). My legs are really short (maybe 26-27" inseam) so it looked pretty ridiculous.

In the fall, it finally clicked that maybe I should do something, after having my friend in the marines do a fitness test with me and I was pathetic (0 pullup/chinup, 8 pushups, 10 situps, etc). Knowing absolutely zilch on losing weight, I started with just reducing the amount I ate. Basically stopped getting second helpings, take 1-2 less of everything (slice(s) of bacon, scoop of rice, etc), smaller sizes (french fries, chips, etc) and remove certain foods (didn't eat a hotdog for almost a year). I also, started to walk more and take the stairs whenever I could.

After a while, it just became a routine and forgot I was doing it. I lost a bit of weight then hit a plateau. This is where, I would have yoyo'd back from my previous experiences. I stayed motivated and keep doing the same thing and finally my body broke the plateau on its own. In all this happened about 5 times at 5 different weight levels. My pants and shirts were starting to get loose. I still felt fat and just relied on the scale as my measure of where I was.

Continued this up till May 2005, when I had a cruise to go to. This is where I realized I lost a lot after buying a pair of swim trunks and staring at myself. For some reason, it didn't click that I lost a lot before. Mind you, I still felt/was fat at 160lbs, 18% bf and loose skin. At that time, I discovered you guys and the gym.

From July till now, I've been hitting the gym (weights/cardio) and transformed my eating. I'm no bodybuilder by any means, but I have leaned down from the "short fat kid". Currenly I am still 5'4" but 145 lbs (12-13% BF, though it is debatable), which is a long way from where I came. Now I wear 29x30 and x-small/small shirts. I appreciate everything I learned from here and will continue to learn.

Hopefully, I can get to 8% BF (long term goal). My motivation early on, was to see, if I could get my body to look similar to Ryan Reynolds in Blade: Trinity, which it still is. But my progress has slowed down a lot. Taking it day by day. Thanks for reading and sorry for this long story.

That's GREAT to hear! Sounds like you definitely stuck to your guns and pulled through it. I like hearing stories like this, especially this time of year when so many people make resolutions to better themselves then break them three weeks later because they realize there is actual work involved in the process.

Isn't it funny how we hit plateaus, stick with it, and FINALLY overcome? I was at a plateau for four months one time and then one day BAM! I started dropping inches again. It's great!

Anyway man, keep up the training and I'm sure you'll reach your goal! I mean, come on, you made it this far!

Transformed my body the old fashioned way.
    -Now to transform it again

Remember every body is different, what works for one person, doesn't have to apply to you - experiment and find what does work.

Ok, im 25, male, 6 ft. and about 200 give or take a pound. I've been bulking for a while now and did obtain the mass i was looking for. But in bulking i put on a nice little layer of fat, nothing serious. I would say my BF is around 15-20, but i've never tested it.
I usually hit up hte gym about 6 days a week, and was going for a bulk routine but have been moving towards a defining routin. Less weight higher reps. My goal now is to work the **** out of my abs and loss the fat i have so i look more defined.
So the website i found told me my cal intake is 2070, so that is what im going on. If you could help out a bit, just tring to trim up and start getting ready for summer, lol
    thanks
