Okay, I know that the pump is NO indication of a good workout and NO sign of progression and I also know that a lack-there-of doesnt mean you had a bad workout. But what exactly is the PURPOSE of the pump???
I beleive that the pump is, of course, blood trapped in a muscle, and when you down your post workout supplements/meal and they digest and hit the blood stream they get trapped in the muscle along with the blood, therefor they go to work where you want them most: The muscle you just worked. So am I right? Am I missing something? What is the purpose?

Easy way to get: Take large amounts of NO2 @_@ hehe j/k
A pump in my experience usually happends if i fly through my workout with very little if any seconds between sets. Sometimes after a workout ill lower the weight and hop on a machine just to get a pump in before leaving. (I use a machine for this because at the end im too wore out to try to pump myself on a freeweight bb hehe) but there are many ways to pump up i hear. Biceps seem for me the hardest to get a feeling in during my workout, its not usually till after its all done that i feel it worked.
Oxygen and nutrients are the main issue with pump. I suppose its for this reason cardio can actually accelerate your muscle developement if used correctly. ... is this true? Im guessing here with the cardio but i believe it to be so.2014 Misc Raw Bench Press Contest winner in the 276lb+ 555lb lift @ ~280lbs

I thought I had a ****ty workout yesterday because I didn't feel any pump or a good burn during my exercises. But come this morning my chest and biceps are a little sore so I must have done something. And I have been working out regularly for awhile. I was so pissed at myself for feeling so weak yesterday during my workout. Guess I shouldn't put so much emphasis on the pump or burn. Doesn't really mean much from my experience.

Arnold: "The greatest feeling you can get in a gym or the most satifying feeling you can get in the gym is the pump. ''Let's say you train your biceps, blood is rushing in to your muscles and that's what we call the pump. Your muscles get a really tight feeling like your skin is going to explode any minute and its really tight and its like someone is blowing air into your muscle and it just blows up and it feels different, it feels fantastic. Its as satifying to me as cumming is, you know, as in having sex with a woman and cumming. So can you believe how much I am in heaven? I am like getting the feeling of cumming in the gym, I'm getting the feeling of cumming at home, I'm getting the feeling of cumming backstage when I pump up when I pose out in front of 5000 people I get the same feeling, so I am cumming day and night. Its terrific, right? So I am in heaven."'

ROFL. is that a real quote from Arnold? and they made him a gov'r? rofl..
I agree with Arnold to a degree its a very good feeling to feel the pump but its not required for any growth/gains. usually in my experience pump is determined by a speed/weight ratio on exercises. Faster medium weight tends to pump me up alot where as slower heavier weight doesnt..both have advantages i suppose.2014 Misc Raw Bench Press Contest winner in the 276lb+ 555lb lift @ ~280lbs

When a muscle contracts the fiber diameter increases as it shortens. This creates a force upon itself and cuts off the blood supply, leaving only what is in the muscle at the time it's cut off. Rise in blood pressure occurs in an attempt to push the blood back out. So, this process actually decreases how much gets out, not really anything to do with how much blood is getting in.

The purpose of most 'NO' products is to maximize the size of the wallets for the asshats selling the product, that is all.

NO products are just expensive and aren't beneficial to growth. Instead take cheaper products such as creatine or taurine that works a lot better and is a lot cheaper.

i like the different opinions here- i think pumps are beneficial in that they help transport more nutrients to your muscles allowing for a faster recov time, and i also think its interesting that pumps are called that b/c not only do they expand the size of your muscles, but your ego and give u something to strive to look like all the time
if anything, the pump is very good for the motivation it gives you alone
