Just curious as I belive I've read milk is not as good as water. Even if that is the case, is the difference that great?

Is protein absorption affected for post workout shake if you use milk or water?

Nope. It doens't matter, as all the milk or water is, is a transporter.
Fats only effect the food they are actually *in*. So, in all reality there is no difference between drinking your milk w/ water, milk, juice, etc. Except the fact that milk has some protein, water and juice etc, do not18 years old

^Nope, milk is simply the transporter of the whey. The *milk* will digest slowly, yes, but the whey will digest at the normal rate

I just didn't want the facts to get skewed. I'll let everyone else draw their conclusions. IMHO the best way would be to take whey immediately post-workout, then casein 30-60 minutes later. Other than that I can't speak to how much of a tangible difference would be made, but I'd rather get any benefits, no matter how slight, that way might offer.

no, your stomach is like a blender, mixes everything up, it doesnt pick out each food and digest them at different rates, it mashes it all up, and takes an "average" so to speak

Ok, hopefully someone can validate this, but I'll give it a whirl.
Basically, once you eat your food, the food mixes up as forms what is known as a chyme, as ripped said. Your stomach does its thing and food passes to the small intestine. Here the nutrients are digested at different rates, especially fat, which takes the longest to digest. That's why high fat meals are more filling than other foods. So, yes, something like whey at this point would digest quicker than other foods. Casein is unique in that it forms a gel in your stomach which will slow down gastric empyting, delaying the time it would take the whey to get to your small intestine.
Don't accept that as fact, I'm familiar with the general process but I really don't know how individual foods effect it. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will step in.Speller Extraordinaire. Don't believe the lies.
