Running - knees lock and cant run further

    hey ppl,
ive found this forum quite usefull in regards to exercising, im from the US and hope there many US guys here, and this is my first post ... anyways back on topic, im a fairly built male, in his early 20s, i love sports and there is one thing that is holding me back, they are my legs. i have no problems with my legs it is just the running.

everytime i run, i can only move like 10-20 steps and my knees lock up, and basically the bottom half of my body cant move. i cant find a solution to this problem. i have this problem since i was small, and i can never fix this problem.

while the top half of my body is fairly built where i have strong arms, etc this is imo built up due to the fact the i have used the upper half of my body to compensate the bottom half.

doing sprints is really difficult, as i can only move 15 or so steps and my legs cant move any further, i just dont know why?????
ive tried running, but as i say i run 15 steps and my legs just freeze. while walking is easy, i cant run, ive tried really hard pushing myself and yet still cant run any further.

some of u guys will tell me just start off slow and move and start running, ive tried that to no avail, this is one thing that really disappoints me as i dont know wat is wrong with me. i luv sports, but the fundamental thing in sports is ur legs to move and become more active.

has any suffer from this problem b4, or knows some1 and has overcome this problem?
    much help thx

    yes, a medical issue

see a doctor if you haven't already. i hope you've seen one already. i have had knee cartilage problems and surgery on both knees. a symptom of torn knee cartilage is your knee locks up and you don't have a full range of movement. see a doctor to find out what is wrong.

i also want to say that i have suffered this problem all my life, i think i was born with this problem, since my brother also suffer from this issue, we can not run far, only llike 15steps and we cant move any further...

no1 else in the family suffers from this except my and my bro, i just wonder if seeing a specialist helps, coz it cost lots of $$$

I don't want to scare you, but apparantly a symptom of meniscus problems is the knee locking up.

Meniscus problems require surgery to fix according to a med student I know.

I don't know if what you mean by "locking up" is the same as what they say about meniscus problems, but you might want to get it checked up.
