I've noticed this in my classroom. Both ethnicities are Asian, so you'd think they would co-exist and mingle with each other. But it's like the Koreans in my classroom are really inclusive only with other Koreans. They rarely ever acknowledge or look at any other race besides each other, particularly at the Chinese. My friend was telling me when he studied abroad in China, the native Chinese students and foreign students (German, Scotts, Americans) were all very warm with each other but the South Koreans just sat with themselves. Wutdafxup?

The orientals in my school/town typically hang out with each other, no matter what country they originate from. Of course there are a few who disperse among the white people, but I don't think there is any specific hatred going back to their original countries like there is between S. korea and N. Korea. Although in different areas they might not like each other due to gang-related or specific personality issues or something of that nature.

I was under the impression that all chinese, japanese, Indians, pakistanis etc fell under the term asian while oriental just referred to the chinese-looking people (koreans, japanese, etc) but not the brown south asians (indians, etc).

I have an asian buddy who hates all asians. Makes fun of them, and wont hang out with the guys, or date the girls. It's weird how he's racist against his own race.

They'll probably add some rice, veggies and tea too.

hmmm...sounds like everything you know about Asian countries you learned on American TV shows. should've studied harder in Social Studies. here are a couple commonly known examples off the top of my head:
1) Vietnam War: Southern Vietnamese (our side) were against the North Vietnamese (communists)
2) China and Japan: there's historically been a lot of tension between these two countries, ranging from full scale wars to bizarre incidents of kidnapping.Last edited by SecondsOut; 06-12-2007 at 07:18 PM.
