U turns have 11g's of sugar. And taste really good.
as far as protein bars. Most of them have alot of sugar in them.
THe atkins bars are really good and have no sugar in them. I personally like the peanut butter chocalte. ALL THOUGH its protein make up content is soy. ANd I don't wanna use soy.
Metrx bars are good, 10g's of sugar 30g's of protein.
anything by designer whey is good. Odyssey's are good.
um......STAY AWAY FROM MUSCLETECH!!!!!!!!!!! There mesotech bars have 25's of sugar and they taste horrible!!! If I'm gonna consume that much sugar it BETTER BE ****ING GOOD!!!!!!!!!!
gnc pro performance/steel bars are really good. about 25g's of sugar in 'em. I have those before I hit the gym. So I burn off the sugar anyway..
Mostly all EAS bars taste like garbage except for rocky road and the caramel peanut butter.
that's all I can think about for now...um.......ya definitly is...

bars
id just stay away from bars in general, often times if u look they are little more than candy bars with protein, having sugar choclate ect. Also hate to burst your bubble but few bars meet their label claims and especcially u-turn, one way, detour, in fact designer way is currently under lawsuit, your only getting about 20g of protein and a few more grams of fat and a TON more sugar.

Most of the bars on the market these days are crap -- not unlike most FOOD on the market these days.
I like ON Protein Diet bars. For bars, they have by far the best ingredient list I've ever seen (0g sugar!). They're great as a mid-meal snack and they taste pretty good too. I encourage you to check them out.

bars suck...never will I buy another protein bar again.
How you feel about the atkins bars? I was thinkin of using those as an mrp when I start cutting. The Iron never lies to you. I work at a supplement store
I work at a supplement store, and for a while I myself never knew that bars werent so good, but the companies are out to make money.
For instance look on the back of the bar at the ingredients, you will see generally the first one as a protein blend, this is then follow by the novel long list of chemicals in it. The protein however is genreally a propietary blend, watch out for these, basically i make it a rule to stay away from most proprietary blends cause what its looks like is this.
(Whey protein isolate, Whey concentrate, caisan, milk protein, Soy protein isolate)
Heres the catch, because its a propoetary blend they dont have to put them in the right order. Now I'm not 100% sure, but I'd bet more money than I have that on many bars they just put a huuuge percent of cheap protein and add in like 1-5% of the better stuff so they can put it on the label. You also need to watch for this in regualar powdered protein. I personally dont see the point behind a propietary blend if its a good product, they would just list them out.
The point of the story is this, bars wont kill you occasionally but I would never let a bar into my daily routine, its cheaper to buy real food and better for you. Try cottage cheese, and protein drinks however are not usually so bad, go for deli meat slices, salmon, oats, you know the good stuff. Whole grain sandwhiches with slices of meat are easy to take with you.Last edited by nathan101085; 01-10-2004 at 07:32 AM.

Keep in mind that many of the bars contain collagen (gelatin) or other "fake" protein sources, and you are not really getting as much protein as you think. Regarding what tastes good, the Next product line (Detour, Joyride, etc.) are tasty--although their label claims have come under scrutiny. (There is a thread discussing this elsewhere.) Premier also has a good tasting protein bar that is somewhat hard to find. The flavor is Double Chocolate Crunch, and it is arguably my favorite.
Always learning.

What about the steel bars/gnc bars? Those have 25g's of sugar and taste like candy! Are those cheap protein and all that??
also no one answered my question, what about the atkins bars? Are those any good? I plan on cutting when I hit my goal weight and wondered if a atkins bar would replace one of my meals..

I know this forum is a bit old, but was looking for comments on protein bars.
The bars just aren't what we all hoped they'd be. Met-RX are probably the best of the mass marketed ones, and if you really just need something that isn't crap to eat in five minutes, they're okay for you. But they are NOT as good for you as the raw numbers would suggest. Most have too much sugar, even if the labels are exactly right.
What the earlier post said about proprietary protein blends and masked ingredients is right on.
I used to eat 2 Met-rx/day at work when I couldn't cook, but I got lean when I replaced the bars with sliced meats (the packaged ultra-lean ham and turkey at the store), and you can pre-make tuna sandwiches. Make a dozen, and stick them in the fridge.
It's all about preparation, man. Look through the day bag of a serious bodybuilder. It's full of food in tupperware, and not a bunch of meal replacement bars.
Pre-cook some marinated chicken breasts - they keep fine adn taste okay at any temperature.
Eat real food, and you'll get results. Nerf food just wastes your time.
