I just invest my leftover money. That's what I'd do. Let it build for decades. I'm not a big spender so I get to invest quite a bit.

I could do it for about 6 months or a little longer if I buckled down. My thinking is not to just rot, but to use the $20k to buy free time. With that time, I would figure out a game plan to start a permanent side hustle. In a perfect scenario, the side hustle becomes profitable before the $20k runs out, breaking me free from wage slavery.

Easy,
I would turn 20k into 60k very quickly:
I would sell a Tesla cash secure put at about $16,000, weekly, you gonna get about 400 bucks in cash on the spot, if the stock keeps dropping I would continue rolling making a couple hundred dollars every single week until I see some kind of a bottom, Around $155 I would switch to the covered call strategy but very conservatively, I will accept some miserable $50 a week so that I can stay in the investment, by December of this year it should be a $450 stock, Which means that I would easily double or even triple the 20 grand.
The other $4000 I would probably throw into microstrategy on the dips like today, when it’s down, it is basically leveraged bitcoin ETF, you’re going to double triple and quadruple your money in the next several months or even weeks.
I will never understand, it will remain forever the biggest mystery in this world for me, why more people do not sell options, it literally is free money, bull market, bear market, crash, nothing matters, you’re selling, you’re making free money. All you have to do is follow some simple rules, yes, you need to know what you’re doing and you need to learn, but it’s infinitely easier than many jobs that we are taught to do.

Having enough on hand to cover 6 months of expenses is a good emergency fund, so I'd put it in high yield savings and then up your 401k contributions to reduce your taxable income and avoid accumulating additional unneeded cash. If you happen to have a HSA, max your contributions to that and then your 401k.
