Very broad question and depends on your budget/intended use.
My main AR-15 is a suppressed Daniel Defense MK-18. 10.3" barrel and a holographic optic. The intended use for this is home defense. I am working on another "apocalypse AR-15" as well which will likely being a BCM or Geissele Upper (14.5"), suppressed with an LPVO optic.
You have to build/purchase according to your desired intent. I chose the 10.3" for maneuverability in tight spaces + the sound suppression. Granted, it's still loud inside a building, but you won't get disoriented from loudness and flash.
My 14.5" build is going to geared more towards outdoor scenarios.6'1 - 240lbs
