After 20 years, it seems that the United States will be withdrawing from Afghanistan per a peace treaty with the Taliban. Our deadline to withdraw is May 1st. How did we lose a war to a bunch of guerillas hiding in the mountains?

What is your definition of losing?
According to what we were "told" the reason for going into Afghanistan was to wipe out the terrorist training camps that harbored Al Qaeda and kill OBL..
Did we do all of those things, yes.
