The deal is that MJ and Denny Hamlin are going to field a car with Wallace driving. Wallace has sponsors lined up for miles wanting to be involved with him so he was always going to be the hottest free agent out there. He played up this social justice thing perfectly is now going to get paid handsomely for it.

It is an odd statement Michael Jordan is making about diversity and fighting systemic racism by buying a NASCAR team. Most think of professional sports anymore as where the best most talented athlete is given opportunity.
The NBA is around 80% black. I don't imagine many would say that there needs to be more diversity in the NBA, with more asians, hispanics or white players.
