I think the Golden Age of the Internet is Over. There are still small nuggets like the Misc. But Social Media and Smart Phones have Ruined the Internet.
1. There are waaaaaay to many people using the internet. You can be on the freeway driving 90 talking **** to someone over the net. Back in the 90's up to mid 2K's you had to be in front of a computer to use the internet.
2. Back in the day People treated the internet as a privilege with 56k Modems and having to buy expensive computers just to access it. Now kids look at the internet as birth right.
3. Reddit killed message boards. up/downvoting turns it into an echo chamber of who can appeal their post to the most people instead of "who is providing the most useful information" reddit is just a hive mind mod mentality type community that is in no way conducive to actually having conversations. Anything that goes "against the grain' of that sub is down-voted into oblivion and hidden.
4. Social Media has ruined the internet and has contributed to the downfall of society.
5. Message boards have vanished, the last true great "forum" of communication has essentially been wiped out.
Below is a list of Message Boards that have been Erased from existence.
- IMDB Boards
- Rotten Tomaotes
- Joe Rogan Boards
- ESPN Message Boards
- MLB Message Boards
- Teamxbox.com boards
- adultswim boards
- Most News Sites have Removed there comments Sections
- view askew/Kevin smith boards
- Ytmnd.com
- Game Spy Message Boards
- G4 TV Boards
Plus Countless Other Message Boards.
For people old enough to remember the golden age of the internet is over and now it feels like a **** hole everyone has a birth right to.

That's funny OP because

Message boards were legit back in the day. There's still some cool ones though, mainly hobbyist message boards where older fukkers still share the knowledge. Reddit fukkin sucks on every level. Can't get to know anyone, no avis (lol, yes I know I don't have one), and every damn topic is "I just got into this, help me with these 5 basic things I should've figured out by now." Man oh man, I've read and even contributed so much back in the day.
Virtue is its own reward.

It's true that message boards are dying. Even this place is a fraction of what it once was in terms of activity and membership. Right now, it's mostly the same batch of people posting in every thread whereas before it was a wide group of people.
What's funny is that, during the peak of message boards (~2005-2011), people used to decry the use of message boards. They would say that message boards robbed us of the prior generation's method of engaging with people in-person. Hence, I think there is some nostalgia imbued in OP's point.
Me too. I used to love going on there after watching an obscure movie and discussing it's themes, plot, acting, etc. You can find other message boards & social media venues to discuss the popular flicks. But IMDB peak was the only place to talk about lesser-known movies.
And to be fair, the IMDB message boards had been dead for a few years prior to it's shutdown; so I wasn't surprised. It was hot back in 2006-2011 or so.

www.moviechat.org not only archived all the old IMDB messages, but you can sign up and most new messages as well. It's great and is getting more popular now (though still just a quarter as popular as IMDB).

A repeated topic, but I actually think you're right. I think Reddit will be around for a long time simply down to the sheer amount of topics that are discussed and have their own part of the board, and the number users it has amassed that will keep most of those sections active. I wouldn't go as far as to say BB is dead, or even that it's necessarily in the dying stages. But, it certainly isn't gaining in popularity and is probably in a gradual downwards spiral.
