Actually, in this case, Toys R Us was doing fine.
It was just Mitt Romney's company that bought them via a leveraged buyout and saddled them with 5 billion in debt.
Eventually, all of Toys R Us' profits were going to interest payments and they just couldn't deal with it anymore.
They would still be going strong if not for that.Ave Christus Rex

sad but true.
my little cousin is like 7 years old but he's on his tablet 24/7.
all day, everyday, his eyes are glued to his tablet playing some kids game. in the car, in a restaurant, at his home, doesn't matter.
I remember when I was little, we'd all ask for mountain bikes, and skateboards, and toy guns and swords and stuff to go outside and play with.....Ave Christus Rex

On a side note: many large retail chains also are reducing and going bankrupt because of online shopping. The personal interaction of traveling to a shop, walking, interacting with humans, having kids smile and play with toys etc is something I hope never fully goes away. It's all a part of developing a sound mind and social intelligence. We need less awkward c*nts.

100%.
I remember getting groups of kids and playing with fake toys guns and grenades, pretending we were this.
I remember SnakeEyes usually being the first GI Joe that kids picked. Well, him or Sgt Slaughter.

I remember the days when my town centre used to be packed with thousands of shoppers every day.
The high street has suffered irreversible decay because of the internet.
All the small independent shops have closed down, and it's now like a scene from resident evil.
All that remains are betting shops, pawnbrokers and needle exchanges.
Absolutely sickening to witness.fist yourself

This is pretty sad. I remember being a kid and looking forward to going to Toys R Us and getting something. I took my daughter there even for when she got to buy a present or something. Amazon is just mugging everyone in retail. I'm first to admit when I did my Xmas shopping I went on Amazon for all her gifts. They were cheaper, and I didn't have to deal with the crowds. The convenience of shopping from my couch is unbeatable.
