- I have live is the SF Bay Area my whole life except college and I currently live in San Francisco in a 500 SQ Ft, 1 bed/1 Bath apartment in a great neighborhood for a great price of rent ($1500)
- My family is local from San Francisco Bay Area. I go to a lot of games with my Dad, we're season ticket holders.
- I'm single (Well casually seeing a girl but not serious), 29 years of age, been working at a company that is my passion (sports & music) I enjoy the last 4 years, nearly since I graduated college. Some of my coworkers have become good friends for me
- Decent pay, promoted 2 years ago but company still working on finding me another open position and move up the ladder. I had been gearing up to start my own online food business in SF, already have an LLC ect.
- I said what the hell and checked a competitor (music) last week and saw a Director position, said what the hell and applied.
- Now I'm in last round of interviews. Job is in Austin, no relocation $ but offering me 10K more than what I currently am paid in SF to live in Austin. Cost of living it may be a 40-45% pay raise

Austin is nothing like SF. Stay in SF. Austin is a poor mans New Orleans. I went there last week. I had fun but I can see it just being a party city with just 6th street like bourbon st. Chit tons of homeless everywhere.

I think nerdwallet has me at a whopping 65K difference but you gotta take into account that I already have a great deal on rent in SF at $1500. So it's a bit skewed but still, SF is more expensive and this would be a big raise in money and career in general. It's a director position. I'm an associate manager right now, manage over 2 contractors.

I just know I'd never choose Texas over California, fck that noise. Plus it sounds like you really are enjoying life in SF, you have all your family and friends and a job you love. Sometimes the grass isn't always greener my friend. Money isn't everything especially with the raise you'd be getting. You sound happy, why change it man?

Austin is a top 3 place I'd ever consider living in along with Nashville and San Diego. The company that is interviewing is highly reputable, as well as the one I am currently at, probably slightly more reputable.
I've grown a bit frustrated over the last year at not having options to move up within my current company, hence my startup and applying for this job.

I'm currently living in Austin. I'd move there if the job position is a step in your career.
Just don't get obsessed with Austin like most people who move here do. Personally, I think it's kind of overrated. I can understand now why people like it, most people I talk to, it's one of their first/second major moves and they haven't moved/lived around the country let alone the world much.
Yes, cost of living is cheaper.
I wouldn't move if it wasn't a title promotion though and only more money.
I also just don't care about having fun so don't really care about the Austin nightlife/social scene.
Edit: Austin nightlife/social scene is more than 6th street. That's the most basic/meh part of the night life. It's something to show tourists, but for your age you'll probably want to check out Rainey Street/East 6th Street and other areas.

There is no local major sports team in Austin, but it reduces the traffic a lot. You can go to games in San Antonio which is about an hour or so away.
Music wise, Austin has a lot of that. I never cared for listening to live music, but that's a large part of Austin, and makes it easy to connect with people here if you are into that stuff.

That’s a tough call since there’s family and returning to SF it’ll be tough to get a 1br for anywhere near that price .
I would probably go to Austin as it’s a big raise and director title.
I’m in a similar boat as I just finished interviewing in Austin and I have a great shot. I’m probably going to have to choose between Irvine and Austin though.

I think I've always felt a little bit of adventure in me to start a new life somewhere, just for the challenge, especially in a city I think I'd like (like Austin)
I like San Francisco but you never know how great a city is until you experience a different city. Just a bit torn. Maybe I'm taking SF for granted, maybe I'm not.

Sounds like you have a lot of things going for you in SF.
Plus, your rent is dirt cheap.
I would not move if I were in your shoes. A lower cost of living is typically due to being a crappy place to live, hence there's nothing to do or buy. Rentals are much lower meaning end prices are lower due to lower rentals. Stay in SF derp derp

See if you can sublease your apartment. If so, you can keep that sweet rent control, take the new job, and if you do want to come back you'll still have the place.
Either way though, I would say still go to Austin. One of the biggest killers of career progress is limiting yourself to a single location."Strength doesn't come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn't."

It's an in-law, I do have my own entrance and everything. Sub-leasing isn't allowed. My lease just came up but I'm sure my Landlord will ask for another 6 month lease at the end of the month. She likes me and I pay my sh!t ahead of time.
Career wise, this position would be a hige opportunity. It's not some BS title name where you really don't run shizz.
But you guys are right, it's tough to throw everything that I have away. Maybe I can still find something like this in SF.http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=142538111

I think the title and new experience in a new town is worth it bro, move to Austin. Plus you'll pocket the extra cash for a couple of years and have some nice investment money laying around.
Don't listen to the ****gy sounding kunts in this thread, most people in Texas are welcoming and chill people. Austin is kind of known for being overrun by libs at this point though so if I'm sure you're going to experience MAJOR hipster vibes there.
Why don't you take a Friday/Monday off to do a 3-4 day weekend in Austin? Check out the music scene firsthand and see whatsup instead of asking social retards on misc who know nothing about good music or going out to have fun.*** Dawn Patrol Crew ***
