I’ve been lifting and tracking my calories for last 10 years. Last year at age 35 I was 191 lbs and 12% bf. I was happy and like my mass. I broke my back in November me end up gaining 35 lbs from obvious poor dieting and not moving. I had depression.
Now, I’m getting back to it and hired a personal trainer that trains pro bodybuilders. They look great. To cut weight, I’m 225. He said eat 2700 calories, for last month I gained 7 pounds. He’s adamant it will work and I will retain the mass thst I do have. I used to cut on 2k calories. I honestly, don’t know what to do. To I keep paying him and listening to him or should I do my own thing. I would like to get into amateur bodybuilding if possible so, I want to believe this will work.
Sry for long post but I appreciate the comments.

Well if I should cut on 1800-2000 calories I’m eating a minimum of 700 extra
Calories a day. Which would translate to over a pound a week, so it might be possible."actually lift crew"

No, that's not how this works. When we cut our BMR and NEAT tend to downregulate some. Thus there is usually a window of calories where our weight will be fairly even.
Put another way, if you can cut at a decent rate at 1800-2000 kcal daily, your maintenance is going to be quite a bit above 2000 kcal.
An injury should not impact your metabolism long term.
