Title. I paid my half of the rent already and we are both on the lease (got a printed copy of it). And he is late 2 weeks and plus a $50 late fee. Things has been awkward lately because he's like kind of embarassed and tries to avoid me. And the landlord has been trying to contact him. This dude is lazy, all he does is sit at home and play league of legends and watch tv; he's fat also, and works part time.
Is this guy trying to play me with this rent? If he has to go to court.

Here's the thing bro, I am on the welfare $50 a week and that is it. In order to pay for everything I can only afford McDonalds to eat due to the high calories and low price. This basically puts my health and my weight to sh*t. I can't get a job because I failed HS and I am fat, I don't exactly appeal visually or smellularly. Because of this I am stuck on the dole, I can't even afford my own internet so I practically live at McDonalds on my laptop and their free wifi mostly applying for jobs that I never get and playing online multiplayer games that I suck at. I have spoken to people on games about this a lot and can never seem to get a solution. I can't afford to go to the gym. I can't even afford to run and get fit because I only have 3-4 sets of clothes (4 tshirts and 3 trousers) which I need to re-wear on other days, I can't wash them after I've only worn them once because I can't afford to. One person's solution was to simply run around my bedsit wearing only my pants... Well that's just unpractical and won't help anything, I have to re-wear underwear too most days so that would be disgusting if they got sweaty from my balls and @sscrack. Did I mention the thing I live in is practically an attic room of a low-end apartment building, the room is 6ft tall and I am 6'3. Even someone that's 5'10 can't stand up in it right though. It is literally just a small room in the roof of this building with a bed, a cupboard, a sink, and a lamp. Oh my weight is about 400lbs if I didn't say that already so it is pretty vital I find an affordable way to lose weight soon.

Unfortunately this.. if the lease does not specify that you each pay $500/m, instead saying the lease is $1000/m, responsibility lands on both of you.
An exception of this would be if you have a separate contract with your roommate stating you will each pay half, based on this thread I assume that doesn't exist.
Make sure you get receipts for your rental payments, if it ever goes to court you can at least prove you've paid 50% of the lease. That can ultimately lead to getting you off the hook if your landlord takes you guys to collections.

YOU would have to take him to court. The Landlord doesn't give a chit who pays as long as it gets paid and since both of your names are on the lease you're both responsible. Meaning if he doesn't pay up then you have to. Sucks but that's a risk you take having a roommate. Definitely dont get one if you can't afford to cover their half the rent too in case a situation occurs like this. He can live there and not pay another dime for the entire lease and there really isn't anything you can do unless you're willing to take him to small claims court to recoup the half that you paid for him.

BUmp. It's almost been 3 weeks and he hasn't paid rent yet.
Would you guys be piss if you were in my position? Ppl around me are telling me to calm down and make it seems like I'm the bad person. The landlords are threaten to take us to court.
Landlord don't care who pays, meaning if he doesn't pay then, I HAvE to right?
