Yeah it seems like the reason (albeit a terrible one) was because you already came to the conclusion that he was no longer interested in you. Then one day he surprised you and you, yourself got the impression he still was interested in you. Yet however at that point you told yourself previously that he was no longer interested. So therefore it's too late. Did I get it?

PS: Some many weeks ago, I felt great during a workout, and a dude who had caught my attention a few times in the past, was passing by me suddenly, I smiled and said hello. He was too, being a bit surprised. But after that whenever I saw him on several days, he was looking away from me.
'Ok, he's not interested...' I kept ignoring him too the next two, three times I saw him after that.

Suddenly one day he stands at my side and asks me whether he can use the equipment where I was working out. I felt it was more than just that. But is was a bit too late already.

So always try to use the opportunities when presented. Or else chances pass by and more often than not they don't return.

I don't think she meant to say just saying "hi" is going directly for the one you like. She was just saying how nice it is to greet people in the gym and see their reaction, and that girls also shouldn't be scared to open up more and do something beyond that when approaching the one they like.

If that is what she meant, then why did she just say hi to a guy one time and not pursue more. Saying hi and smiling is polite, so is not staring at another person in the gym. Why did she not approach again? Why did he have to work up the courage to do so and then when he finally did, was it too late?

After a second period of time I saw him again, again he was avoiding me with his eyes, although we trained in close range sometimes.

'Ok buddy, this is a two way street here.' I ignored him from that point on. About the fifth or sixth time when I saw him, he approached me asking me for something, that he could have had in two other places in the gym as well. Also his body language and a quite attentive expression on his face gave him away a bit.

But it was a bit too late already. In the meantime - a time span of a couple of weeks in total - I got in contact with another guy.

Take care of opportunities presented. Don't miss chances, or it might be too late someday.

This post makes you come off as very narcissistic and self important. It makes you come off as a person who think other people should be honored that you said "hi" to them or interacted with them. The way you put it, it seems like the guy should be oh so lucky to recieve a smile and a hello from you. I hope this is not how you really think because if so, that is very disheartening. I nod, smile, and say hello to people at the gym all the time, that doesn't mean I am interested in them. I am being polite. Again I don't know if you are like this irl but you give off a very self important vibe here. ^ FYI, it may be different where you train, but in the gyms around here, nobody says hello to anybody whom they do not know on the training floor, especially if the gym is packed with people.
And I'm quite sure this is also the case in your place too.
