Good luck with all that useless math.
Degree's worthless unless you plan on making robots.

I work in infosec and do codewriting/malware reverse engineering and a plethora of other ****. Studied IT/CIS.
I will dev tools or program when I find it necessary.
Just saying - I went to school with neckbeards that huddled in a room all weekend trying to hammer out physics/calc, etc, yet I'm doing the same thing they do.The above post is a 100% complete lie

might as well stop there. not sure what you mean by running scans either.
And I do have a pretty solid understanding of OS architecture/internals as it's a fundamental req for dealing with malware or malicious code
Just saying. If you're a CS major having a hard time with the degree switch to IT/CIS.
Guess what - the salary is just as good (in some cases better too). The above post is a 100% complete lie

Not in the least I just laugh every day there is a cs master race thread
When in reality anybody can be better than anyone if the put there mind to it misc seems to think cs is the Golden ticket to life when it really isn't it might open some doors but it's what you do when the door is open that defines it

Right, there's no golden ticket - you just need to get in the door. After a few years of experience in a field, nobody gives a fcuk about your degree anymore. I'm just saying that CS is often perceived as higher value to get in the door - I'm not claiming that's right or wrong. I know absolute morons who graduated CS and can't even program.

I sat in a few CS classes out of boredom, and learned more coding on my own than sitting in class an entire semester. I ended up getting my electrical engineering degree, but learning code made the whole thing a lot easier.

Honestly, that might have been the case 5-10 years ago but not now.
I've been doing this for years now, have looked at plenty of resumes, done lots of networking. I don't even look at that degree type (neither do my peers) so long as you can prove you know wtf you're doing.
I know a poli sci major who was a malware analyst/researcher for a competing firm and ended up working with us. Nobody gave a crap about his degree.
At the end of the day, if you can do the work, nobody really cares anymore about the underlying degree. Lots of the smart folks do this stuff as a hobby and ace through school without a hiccup due to them taking a cake degree. The above post is a 100% complete lie

in on this;
gonna get a MS in IT/CIS to get into dat project management for software/dev teams.
although just the CS degree itself kind of guarantees you'll be 'okay' for life.
on a flip note how hard is it to get into infosec? like in an honest way.
I feel like it's interesting and would be worthwile to learn but don't want to be shat on."The Spartans do not ask how many are the enemy, but where are they."
