brb "routine" traffic stop could be a felon with a gun willing to kill you
brb have to make split second decisions
brb face could be on national news and hated by millions if you do something controversial
brb media demonizes you
brb good deeds go virtually unnoticed
Legit, if the going salary was 5 MILLION a year, I'd say no. 6 Mil.....I'd think about it, then say no.
Much respect to the good cops that do the right thing everyday, you guys need more support.

I am a rookie cop. Thanks for this thread Srs. It's disheartening with all that goes on but we rely on each other our families and people like you OP to keep us going. You only ever hear about a few incidents on TV among the 800,000 cops in the US 20 incidents a year is nothing but we are all categorized as bad.
Yet a female teacher has sex with a kid but no stigma is attached to all teachers being ****phile deviants.

Agreed. It phking pisses me off that the media phking blows up every time a cop does something wrong, but they almost never emphasize how much they do to keep the public safe. All the DUI's, speeding tickets, running red lights or stop signs, etc etc etc... people don't understand how much all those add up... srs.
I'm not saying we should ignore the WRONG things that police officers do, but holy phk.. don't let the bad cops change your view on all cops. Most of them are doing the right thing and the ****-bag cops are ruining things for the good cops. Anyone who intentionally gives a cop a hard time is a ****ing jackass.. for example all the dumb asses on youtube that fake public urination, jump over cops sitting on a bench, etc etc etc.
These guys have to deal with enough ****, so unless you're going to say or do something that might brighten their day.. just stay the phk out of their way.

Why do you hate cops? It's a dangerous job but, most of the time it's simply paper work and sitting around. Why do they deserve $100k? I have a few CO friends, a few county friends, and one state guy acquaintance. They all tell me the same thing. The CO's seem to see the most crap and they're paid the least. State guy has it made. Makes more than the others and has less conflicts. I thought about going to be a state trooper during college, then I learned they max out around $50k and changed my mind. Pretty prestigious job though.

Agree with OP.
A lot of my family were law enforcement of some type (mostly of the Drug Task Force nature.) The cop bashing lately is annoying. All the internet warriors out to prove that they would've reacted differently in different situations with the years of training they have by watching combat videos on the internet."The worst thing I could be is just like everyone else."- Arnold Schwarzenegger.

25-30k in New Jersey??? I'm in CT and the lowest starting salary is about 42k but after 5 years of service bumps up to 65k without OT.
I agree that majority of cops took up their profession for all the right reasons and are great people. I just graduated from Uni with a Criminal Justice degree and also finished up my internship with the local police department. Every cop I had met shared different success stories about the job. After Ferguson and Eric Garner, the perspective of LEOs being the enemy seems to be more culturized than ever. There isn't nearly enough recognition for positive stories involving police officers and it pisses me off.

My biggest gripe with cops is I can't stand being around them. (Firefighter brah) I work side by side with them a lot and have friends who are married to cops. Their job has given them the most fukked perception of reality. They only see the bad in everybody and are cynical as fukk. Most of them have terrible egos making it impossible to hold a conversation with. Sense of humor is long gone with any over a few yrs on.
Oh and they all are jealous of us because we get to eat, sleep, fap etc. at work.*Misc Lean Bulk Crew*

Agreed.
Guy in this video was soon arrested and they didn't harm him, other then hitting him with the taser (as seen in the video). These guys did exactly what the citizens who are protesting want, but the headlines still read "hahahah man knocks out cop!" and people are cheering this guy on for what is going on 2,000 miles away. These cops had nothing to do with brown or any other on going case, but get no praise, only insults and bloody fist.[Dallas Cowboys][Dallas Mavericks][Texas Rangers][TCU*NCAA][DFW Crew]

Considered it but it can be a cruel and unforgiving job. Those who you try to help often seek to harm you. One bad apple spoils the bunch. People want to kill you (and your family) because of what you do for work either due to misinformation or because youre a risk to their illegal business practices. Every night could be your last.

UK brah here. I think American cops get portrayed in a bad way a lot of the time in the media etc.
I spent a lot of time in the States, had a few run in with the cops there and found them to be very professional and courteous, even when I was doin **** I shouldn't have been. More professional than cops at home.
