    Same Meals Every Day?

Is eating the same meals every day bad? I know IIFYM exists, and I can vary what I eat, but I feel eating the same meal every day is much simpler. Any thoughts?

If it meets micronutrient sufficiency, then eating the same staple foods (basing your diet around the same things) is acceptable. But I wouldn't recommend eating the exact same thing, every single day.

I eat the exact same thing, every single day, until its time to adjust my macros (for bulk or cut), and then I go right back to eating the same everyday.

I have no problem with it, but that's because I don't want to eat something different and have to adjust my calories around it. I honestly have no problem eating the same thing everyday.

It isn't bad at all. Your body can't grow tolerant to fats, carb, and protein like it does to caffeine.

Why would you have to do this or want to? Sure it's simpler; but, is the easiest path the best? I think you'll have a much better chance at long term success by learning how to prepare a good variety of foods that meet your needs.

Chances are your diet will not contain all micro and phytonutrients.

So variety is usually a good thing.

OP, I do this because I am at college and live off of a meal plan where the food is in the cafeteria. I will eat a certain diet with estimated calories I want to hit and just stay consistent with my intake and adjust as necessary. After 4-5 days I switch it up, or if I crave something else for a certain meal I will replace it with a similarly caloric dense meal. I love it and it allows me to be somewhat accurate, and I require no effort in hitting macros by the end of the day since it is already planned out. Just cycle what you eat every so often and try to include a wide variety of meats, fruits, veggies, legumes, nuts, etc and base your diet around whole, unprocessed foods.

I doubt anyone can create such a perfect diet to get all the micronutrients in one day, therefore, variety is needed.

    Eggs, broccoli, salmon.

I'm not advocating this diet, but here's something that I posted in a thread a while ago...

Originally Posted by cls91 View Post

Make it 3 foods and I'd say it's a bit more realistic.

    10 Eggs, 1500g Broccoli, 500g salmon.

2,200 kcal, 200g P, 120g F, 100g C. Well above protein/fat minimums, and if you need more calories then that, then I guess you would be permanently cutting until you plateau at that intake, in which case you would sustain yourself on that amount.

Covers all micronutrients, with about 4:1 Na/K, 2:1 Ca/Mg, etc.

40g fiber (all from broccoli, but 50% soluble and 50% insoluble), and a 1:1 Omega-3/Omega-6 ratio with direct sources of EPA/DHA.

Don't get me wrong, I still think prolonged exposure to any diet of just 2 or 3 foods will lead to imbalances, but in terms of what's your 'best' option, I think this would be pretty darn close.

If micronutrients is your only concern, then it's actually quite simple... but there are more factors that come into play.
