Just needing some advice. I have a 5'10", 190lbs, 12 yr old son and we been hitting the gym. Does mostly the weight machines. Has plenty of cardio on a daily basis (plays hockey as well) so he only uses the elliptical/treadmill to warm up. He does 2 sets of 10 reps on each machine (lower back extension/leg ext./leg curl/seated row/chest press/lateral raise/bicep curl/triceps ext./ab. crunch).
He watches what he eats but I'm wondering how much protein he needs. I don't know if this matters but he eats 5 small meals a day (2 at school).

Watch the lang. He does have a childhood, I didn't say anything about "bodybuilding". Only registered him at the gym due to the fact he wants to someday play in the NHL, his dream. So as a parent, it is my duty to get him to where the resources are. I was only asking about protein intake as well.
A lil update: He just turned 13 a few weeks ago and growing way too fast, 6ft now and 200lbs altho he ain't chubby. Works out when he can.
So tnx to all who answered.

I don't think you should worry about getting him to a number of protein to hit for a day, especially since he's 13 and still growing. My advice is to just make sure he gets plenty of food without counting the macros, and let him continue working out. If he continues to lift, and wants to make a career out of it, then maybe at 16 he could start counting his macros. But that's just my advice. :P
