    hamstrings in squats/deads

I just cant see how you can get a good workout on your hammies with just squat or deads(excluding stiff leg). To me they seem like mostly a quad/glute exercise with hamstrings as a stabilizer. thats like trying to workout your biceps with bench press, sure they stabilize but it aint doing much to put on mass.

why are the glutes so strong but the opposing muscle (hip flexors? ) are not, doesnt that create an imbalance?
wouldnt hanging knee raises with a weight on your feet be a better compound exercises for hammies, with the only problem of maybe over working your hip flexors.

sorry, bunch of random questions/ideas. I just get confused when it comes to the legs, i tend to think of the hammies as your biceps and quads as your triceps. so you need a push movement for one and a pull for the other, how can a push (squat/deadlift) work both efficiently

Squat deep and deadlift with correct form and see how your hamstrings feel afterwards.

stiff legged deadlifts are great for hamstrings, but I never just do them. I do about 4 exercises for quads, ofcoarse I am not just going to do one exercise for hams. So I do 3-4 exercises for hamstring typically - stiff legged deads, lying leg curls, seated leg curls and if I feel good I do lyding dumbbell hamstring curls.
