Probably Ronnie's 2001, it's not just the numbers of the contests won, but also their quality and competition faced by the winner. The big 3 are and have been: Olympia, Arnold Classic and the Night of Champions (currently NY Pro). The Olympia winner almost never competed in the AC, except Ronnie and Dexter. But Dex is below Ronnie.

Im really against the idea of adding bbers who didn't win the O or at least most of them. I've seen Shawn Ray's Best of SR dvd and he said 1990 was the low point of his career lol. Victor has gone on record saying he's gone to therapy after losing the 07 Olympia. Kai is fairly obvious if you've seen the ending of his Overkill dvd. 2012 is also the year branch fell off a horse.

This man had on hell of a run back in the early 90's despite never winning an Olympia;
1991 Arnold Classic - IFBB, 3rd
1991 Grand Prix Denmark - IFBB, Winner
1991 Grand Prix England - IFBB, 2nd
1991 Grand Prix Finland - IFBB, Winner
1991 Grand Prix Italy - IFBB, Winner
1991 Grand Prix Spain - IFBB, Winner
1991 Grand Prix Switzerland - IFBB, Winner
1991 Ironman Pro Invitational - IFBB, 5th
1991 Mr. Olympia - IFBB, 3rd
1991 Pittsburgh Pro Invitational - IFBB, Winner

In my mind it is tough to judge this like other sports. Only the Olympia would have had ALL of the top guys in any given year, so really it is only the Olympia that really counts for who is OVERALL best in a particular year.
So while titles might look very impressive, if you don't win the Olympia, it is likely you only won it due to the absence of another bodybuilder, in which case you would obviously not be the best bodybuilder in that year.

With Arnold in 1970, he won three contests from three different organizations (AAU, NABBA and IFBB) so that's pretty significant. He also beat the reigning Mr. Olympia (Sergio Oliva) twice that year. Dickerson had a tremendous year in 1980, winning the majority of the Grand Prix titles as well as the overall Grand Prix and then taking second (beating the reigning 3x Mr. Olympia Frank Zane) at the Olympia that year. Flex also had a fantastic year in '93 because that was his pro debut and he not only won but blew away the competition at the Pro Ironman and the Arnold Classic (beating both Labrada and Vince Taylor) and then taking 2nd at the Olympia to Dorian.

Agreed for sure. As others in the thread have also stated, I too think AC, NYP/Night Of Champions and O wins or top 3 placings definitely carry a lot more weight. Just sayin that '97 was a good year for him also despite the AC placing blip...The European Grand Prix were also some great shows in their own right. But yeah, if I has to choose one, I would lean towards '94...
