Bruhs... I was a firm believer I wouldn't see that much of a difference, but I was wrong. Picked up the I5 4670K OCd to 4.0 right now. From a long-time AMD guy, if you have the extra cash, do it!

What AMD CPU did you upgrade from?
Edit: Nevermind I see it was the 8350.Last edited by TrancePhreak07; 10-20-2013 at 12:22 AM.

Depends what you're using the computer for. Not everyone uses the computer just for gaming. 8350 outperforms I5 in most application benchmarks.
http://anandtech.com/bench/Product/697?vs=837
8350 is also more overclockable than a I5, intels new TIM hurts overclocking performance.
Also for multi-threaded applications 8350 rapes 4670k.
And for gaming I can purchase a FX 6300 for $110 with same GPU as a intel with 4670k and you will probably see 1-2 FPS difference. (Cool you spent $120 more for 1-2 FPS difference gg) You need to go up about 7 performance brackets with your graphics card before CPU becomes a bottleneck.
CPU's are so advance now that CPU will rarely ever be a bottleneck in gaming. GPU 99% of the time will be the bottleneck when gaming.

good purchase, them 4000 series intel chips are powerful.
its a big difference to me in budget, brah! I'm also a smart shopper when it comes to budget gaming.
brb fx6300 for 90 bucks OEM on ebay. saved myself 100+ bucks since I already had AMD mobo as well that I only paid 99 bucks for 3 years ago. things OC'd to 4.7ghz, no problems here.
Waiting for intel skylake and DDR4 ram before I do any upgrading again.STEAM: rangetsu1 | SC: jonnyboiiir | IG: jonnyreyes12

Intel (16 cores) costing 6 times more than AMD (6 cores) but only performing a few minutes better. Imagine using a cheaper 16 core AMD, it'll rape that intel processor in rendering while being cheaper.

My phenom ii is still going strong, paired with a new 7950 it plays everything maxed and opens chrome up like a boss.☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ ★cVc★ ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

The last time I used an AMD CPU in my build was over 10 years ago with the Athlon 64. One of the best CPU's ever.

out of the 14 benchmarks listed, its better in 7 of them...even in the multi-threaded benchmarks its not a clear winner over the i5. you might wanna actually look at the link you provide to back up your claims.
http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/446..._i5-4670K.html
FX is 2% better in multi-threaded applications. and the i5 is 53% better in single threaded applications. yes it costs more, but thats what you're paying for. and IMO its worth it.
I'm not even a fan boy, but the state of CPUs right now, the only reason i'd buy an AMD chip is probably a really low budget build where I might want 4 cores instead of 2. you can at least debate the FX vs the i3's.Misc Crypto Chat - https://discord.gg/NTbdBMu come chat with us!

First of all you must be blind. There are 19 listed and 8350 wins 14 of them. People who run multi-threaded applications and heavy multitasking will get more benefit from a 8350 than a i5 4670k. FACT. Of course Intels wins in single threaded applications, the point I was trying to make is not everyone uses there PC just for gaming.

ok i cant count there are 19...its still 7 out of 19...so yeah, makes my point the same...you gotta read the part that says "higher is better" or "lower is better".
anyways, yeah i agree not every uses their PC for gaming, but I'd still recommend most intel chips over AMD chips. and yeah, you're comparing an 8 core chip to a 4 core chip, that fact that it performs better in multi-thread should be obvious, but its not even that much better...
and yeah if we're talking about actually using all 8 cores, it can be better, but most ppl think gaming while alt+tabbing between 5 browser tabs and listening to music is multitasking. the amount of people that really can take advantage of lots of cores/HT/etc are small. I mean i bought a 2600k with a quadro 5500 GPU cuz I was using CAD, Revit, CS5, Studio Max and rendering a lot in school. I don't do a whole lot of it now, so I barely use my i7 to its full potential. except for maybe when i'm recording LoL games.Misc Crypto Chat - https://discord.gg/NTbdBMu come chat with us!

LOL upgrades from 4 year old phenom. Becomes Intel fanboy because performance increase.
There is only a $20 difference in price if you have access to a microcenter which a majority of the country does not, and if you can buy from microcenter you better be getting an i7. So for the rest of us its a $60 difference. The performance between an i5 and an 8350 will be practically unnoticeable in games and browsing around windows, unless playing some poorly threaded 4 year old MMO.
Please don't spread misinformation. People read these threads and make purchases based off them.

You're right I totally read those benchmarks wrong but my point still stands, for heavy multi-threaded apps 8350 is better. And if you watch that youtube video 8350 is on par with intel chips and even surpasses it on some for gaming. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu8Sekdb-IE
Exactly, I think OP just wanted to brag he has a intel chip but instead it just showed how much he knows about CPU's. Nothing.
