    Question on BCAAs

    Hey Guys,

By far am I no bodybuilder or really big dude but I do enjoy lifting. Due to my future career choice I have to have a compromise between muscle and cardio. Because of this I always run into the problem of loosing muscle mass because of the amount of running I do. In order to combat this, I do the majority of my cardio as HIIT now. Any whom, I try to get my calories in and I try to get the protein in as much as I can. In order to help combat muscle loss during lifting and HIIT I've had a few friends recommend taking a BCAA supplement.

I've read a couple articles online about them and I feel like they would suit my needs to help assist. So now my question is this, I currently take a Prework (NO xplode) about 15 minutes before I go to the gym. If I take a BCAA prior to my workout also when should I take that? And also what about after I lift? After I lift I also take some syntha-6 to help supplement my protein intake.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a good BCAA product?

    Thanks

I'd use the BCAAs intra workout. If you're getting plenty of protein already the effects BCAAs will get you are minimal though. I try to get 1.5g protein per lb of bodyweight and that should be sufficient to help keep from losing muscle mass. When I used BCAAs, fasted training, I preferred the grape Atomic 7 or the watermelon xtend.

Definitely intra workout. I use modern bcaa. It woes well tast good and is not super expensive. Getting protien from foods may help with weight maintenance as well.

you might be thinking into it more than you should, If you are getting you macros and you want to increase your bcaa`s eat more protein. Have another pro shake, eat a chick breast.

If you are not a pro don`t worry

Intra workout huh? So do you just take it over your workout or just smash it in one shot like halfway through? Gotta read more on it

Edit: Also reading a bit on intraworkout sups I looked at Atheltic Edge Intrabolic, contains BCAAs and a whole mess of stuff. Any thoughts? Also taking this while also taking a preworkout prior am I going to kill myself?

I just drank it throughout the workout. You can get BCAAs in pill form if you prefer that

I use Amino Build White Grape, and I drink it throughout my workout. You mix each scoop with 8 oz of water, so its a drink, and I just sip on it throughout until its done.

I've always been a fan of intra-workout amino acid consumption. I've always noticed a bit of an endurance and recovery boost from it, and many studies show this to be a very beneficial time for them. Plus, with the added taste, it makes it much easier to drink more water during, as well, which is always a positive. I've been using RecoverPro, it's great tasting, effective, and very cost efficient. Feel free to send me a PM for some free samples, as well.

I would recommend give N'Gage a try. As far as timing, you can take it intra workout but as long as you get it within about 30 minutes of completion of workout, you will be good to go.

Most BCAA's are taken intra workout.

I take Compete by iForce Nutrition. Tastes awesome and really helps replenish sore muscles & keep energy up. I mix 2 scoops in my gallon jug of water and drink throughout the day.

So, really, you can do BCAA's intra, pre, post or drink throughout the day.

    Here's some info: http://www.iforcenutrition.com/compete.asp

    Cor beta BCAA
    Aminolast
    Compete

Those are the top three for me. I've also used Xtend in the past which is a pretty good no nonsense product. I've also used Modern BCAA's but the ratios in that formula is bizarre IMO. Also heard excellent things about Purple Wrath and that's put out by Controlled Labs which makes it trustworthy in my book.

Hmm interesting so far thanks, so I've come to the conclusion that I'm either going to go with a pill form or intra workout. The pill form seems better because asides from lifting I sometimes do HIIT later in the day. So figuring, if I do that, I could instead take some before lifting and after and take some after doing cardio?

There is not a single study in support of "intraworkout" BCAA consumption.

BCAAs aren't just a random supplement that people use because it "works" (i.e. glutamine). BCAAs actually have data on them, but it's mostly preworkout dosing

    Buy XTEND.
This, XTEND is one of, if not, the top bcaa product on the market.

I think in your situation OP it could be beneficial but I would focus on macros and consistent diet first.

    Thanks
Most people prefer taking BCAA's either before doing fasted cardio and also during intra workout, but you can really take them whenever you want.

I typically do them first thing in the morning before cardio, intra workout and them again with my last meal.

I suggest that you check out AI Sports Nutrition Recoverpro
its one of the most wallet friendly BCAA's on the market today. the 125 serving tub will last you quite some time.

Please feel free to PM me if you wanna try out some samples or if you have any other further questions
