Ok let me start by saying im going to edit this post later because I always forget to include things in it
A year ago I started having pain in my pec and serratus which bothered me mostly during back workouts. I let my body rest for a few days and the pai went away so I went back to lifting at which point the pain came back. I saw a physiotherapist who told me that my serratus for whatever reason was trying to take over the work that my lat should've been doing and thus was injured. He told me to take time off from training back so for the next three months or so I only trained legs and some chest and arms. Gradually the pain in my serratus went away but I started to notice what I now know as "scapular winging". When i sit in a chair my right scapula pushes out of my back and into the chair whereas my left one retracts as it should. I could also notice the difference when looking in a mirror from a side view. This didn't cause me a ton of pain but i noticed when i went back to training my lats with exercises such as pullups and lat pulldowns my left lat does work like it should and my right lat does almost nothing. Same goes for my upper traps. As such i have developed larger left lat and traps than my right. At the same time I started to notice my right delt growing much larger than my left and eventually figured out that it was because my right delt did almost all the work when benching or doing any chest exercise leaving me with a smaller right pec and larger right deltoid. More recently I have found that my right shoulder sits up higher than my left one does and i have begun to believe that this is the cause of my lat imbalance. When i focus on keeping my right shoulder depressed while doing a pullup i can feel my right lat doing work but if i dont concentrate on it, my right trap autonomically shrugs up and elevates my shoulder which causes my right serratus to do work when it shouldn't. It seems now that when i try to contract my lats, my left one fires but instead of my right one firing along with it my right serratus fires instead. Also, my right shoulder seems permanently protracted (pushed forward) causing my right delt to work during bench and such. Getting back to the pec issue, now the problem is that my left pec is not only much larger than my right but my right hardly contracts in most places and as a result has a "hole" in it where the muscle has atrophied to the point where it looks bad. My Doc said it's a pinched/obstructed nerve that just needs time to heal/regrow but i want to make sure there is nothing i can do. He said it will take a year to grow back to where it was but honestly its been a year and all its gotten is worse.
Here are some pics
left pectoral muscle (normal)
right pectoral muscle (notice atrophy along sternal head in middle) thats the "hole" i was talking about
here's both, it's a little less noticeable here
posterior scapula, notice how the right one sticks out more (used to be worse)
here's magnum athlete mike o'hearn who appears to have the same thing but very small on his left side (our right)
If anyone ITT has ANY experience with this problem, be it a pinched nerve or not please let me know. ill rep anyone who helps me out with this.
Also although this may sound ridiculous if anyone -who has suffered from this or not- helps me FIX this problem even to a small degree i'll paypal you money (100% srs). That's how desperate I am. Physio's, MD's, Chiro's all couldn't offer a solution other than sit and wait which hasn't done a thing for me. Thanks for reading guys
