I take a commuter train to work.
It seems to me that every man has a purse. A murse (man's purse) some people call them.
Tablets, iPads, etc., are stored in them. I suppose I understand that. I have a big bag which carries my lunch, my book, my makeup bag and my wallet.
I remember the days when men carried briefcases, attachés, or a valise. I think a man could fit his tablet into a briefcase.
I'm not sure why this bothers me, but it does.

A former manager at my work was originally from Germany, anyways he would carry a damn purse around. Had a long strap and carried the damn thing over his shoulder. I don't care if it's the thing to do in Europe, it's still kinda ghey looking...which BTW I have been to Europe twice in the past 6 yrs and didn't see many men carrying a purse.

Because it's not the cultural norm here. The same reason why walking around naked in the streets doesn't hurt anyone but would likely raise some eyebrows. Capris are women's clothing, at least in this country. I'm reasonably sure we're not the only country with cultural norms.

I carry two to three laptop computers at any given time in my soft-case in addition to papers and books. Damn thing probably weighs 30+ pounds, which when trucking it across campus makes the shoulder strap invaluable.2 + 2 = 5 (for extremely large values of 2)

Must be a Canada thing.
Just kidding Lisa.
I see lots of people with backpacks here in San Diego, not many murses. only the douoche bag looking hipsters have them, not businessmen.
I wear a packpack but only because i ride a motorcycle. I take it off when I park because it looks stupid to walk around with my tie and a backpack on.

I can't stand the "satchels/totes" or whatever they want to call them. I use a backpack most of the time for hauling my laptop to work . . . much easier to deal with and if I have a bunch of stuff to carry it's nice to have the weight distributed over both shoulders. I have a nicer laptop bag that I can use if I need to look a little more formal.
And nobody has posted this yet? I am disappoint

When I was in Italy 30+ years ago my passport was stolen. I had to report it stolen to the Italian police and arrived at the cop shop early. Eventually the officer arrived carrying a shoulder bag which had to be stowed in the bottom desk drawer before we could deal with my matter.
I also saw men carry satchels of one sort or another when I lived in Quebec. Those who carried them swore by them and couldn't understand those of us who thought that using them was reason to question one's masculinity.
