Weight gain, man. They tend to get hurt the most when bodyweight is factored in. You need to consistently bulk if you ever want to see these go up faster.

If you want to know whether you should go to 148 or not then think this: What Would Lee (Lvisaa2) Do?

You know what he would say. He would tell you that you're too busy spinning your wheels and you need to buckle down and gain your 2lbs a month. I was super hesitant to bulk, serious, but he turned me. He's honest as **** and I've never seen him steer anyone wrong. bout

At the same time, in regards to a 3x BW DL, Paul Carter said it best:
"If a guy is to be considered strong, in my opinion, he needs to be strong in a well rounded way. Not considered strong just because he’s freaky on a particular lift. That’s my own opinion about it anyway."

Hell, if I was you, I'd probably hesitate too because you're diced but if you care about your other lifts then who cares about a 3x BW. You can easily reach that by bulking consistently since the strength gains would progress faster than the weight gain. If you really want 3x BW (465) @ your current BW (or higher) for your competition, throwing in singles (>90% true 1RM) for the DL may get you there depending on where you're at. I think you can easily hit that. ****, I could have probably hit 445 if I didn't go for 455 instead and I know you can out DL me.

Read above. Bench and presses tend to rely heavily on some weight gain. Either gain weight or bench a lot more frequently (3+ a week).
“Go back?" he thought. "No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!" So up he got, and trotted along with his little sword held in front of him and one hand feeling the wall, and his heart all of a patter and a pitter.”

yeah Lee would tell me to sack up, and like I said I was on the fence even before hearing your wisdom. After really weighing the pros and cons I realize you are totally right. Onwards and upwards. 165 or bust.... again, another seriously great post and im still on spread (not like I think u really care about reps but this was definitely rep worthy).

and heres been my dinners the last 2 nights. Ive been busy as FUUUU hence the lack of pics and the combo of my lighting plus crappy phone cam really makes my food look unappetizing... after some editing these look ok.

Last night: chicken pot pie casserole. peas, carrots, corn, chicken, broccoli all in cream of chicken soup, then topped with 100g of instant pancake mix (weight of powder, then added like 3/4 cup water to make batter and added savory spices) and baked at 400 for 35 mins. pretty good, will do again. more pancake batter next time

Tonight(now): Shepard's pie. Same veggies as above, chicken breast, gravy. Then topped with mashed potatoes and cheese slices and baked at 350 until warmed. side of a pop tart (mirin Billy?)

5'10 and 155. Come on dude. You got PLENTY of room to add size to your frame, 165? You should be aiming for 180ish. You are damn lean and have plenty of time to add size. Keep training hard and keep eating. Gonna take a lot to fill out that frame!

Dont sell yourself short, you are in your prime growing years. take advantage of it.

I could totally lose the weight in a heartbeat but im really on the fence. The idea of a 3x BW DL enticing to say the least but I dont know if I should. thoughts?

Looks like Perp already helped you out and that's the beauty of a log. People will keep you honest and progressing when your mind wants to play tricks on you. Honestly, you're strong as f for your weight and in my experience, a good base of strength and being relatively lean means you can make some great gains. It is always tempting to go after those 'milestones', but in the end what will it mean to have done that at 148? Is that your end goal? Bulk, continue to get strong , and get a 3xBW DL at 165, then at 175, then at 185. I got faith. Keep busting ass and keep the end goal in focus.

Oh yeah I know, 155 is far too light. 181 is definitely the long term goal. 165 is just short term b/c of PLing. will probably try to do a meet sometime in early 2013.

Yeah exactly. It was a momentary lapse of judgement. Also just realizing now that its the week after thanksgiving. lol at cutting through that....but yeah any milestones at 148 are quite irrelevant now that I think about it, because i defintiely dont wanna keep dropping down. So yes, time to get strong as FUUUU for this meet and come in at the 165s. My unofficial goal is a 480 DL which will still bee ~3x BW. Thanks for stoppin in and keepin an eye on me, I appreciate it.

Yes, I have a problem with not thinking of the big picture, but my decision has been made, onwards and upwards. If I ever want to step on stage or do well in PL I'm going to need to gain a ton of weight... Also, can't decide if I like the Iscream poptarts better frozen or toasted. Been doing 1 of each per pack...also realize they must be discontinued cuz I picked up a box on clearance for $0.99...why they DCed rainbow cookie and these but keep hot fudge (my least favorite ive tried) still boggles my mind...#poptartproblems lol

    11/6/12 Squat 5+

Intro: felt like **** all day, not sure why. Right knee is hurting a little on the outside, thoughts? I dont think its the patellar tendon but if there is another tendon on the outer part of knee It could be some tendinitis there...

    Lifts:
    Squats: WU, 185 x 5, 225 x 5, 250 x 11, 225 x 8, 225 x 8, 225 x 8, 185 x 8
    Deads: WU, 225 x 5, 315 x 3, 405 x 1, 405 x 1, 315 x 5 (not sure why I decided to pull a few singles. Felt fine though)

    Assistance:
    Ham curl: 110 x 8, 120 x 8, 120 x 8
    1 leg extension: 70 x 10, x 10 x 10 (per leg)
    Glute ham (holding a 25 lb plate, superset into seated calfs): x 10, x 12, x 12
Back extension (holding a 25) superset into 1 leg standing calfs: x 12 (5 sets, no rest)
Leg press (4pps): x 8, x 8...constant tension, quads seized up, thought i was gonna have to crawl home.

    Vid:

Thoughts:Im still pseudo CBLing but I think I have to stop. Sorry for TMI, but I think it has made me somewhat irregular. tmw im going to try having some carbs in the AM as well as some metamucil and hope it works itself out. Also very stressed due to a big test this thursday and I've heard that can have an effect too, so who knows.

If you're serious about powerlifting I would be shooting for no lower than the 181s. You're 5'10". How many great PLers do you know at that height that weigh sub 181? Hell, how many do you know of that are sub 198? I speak from experience: Don't try and serve two masters. If you want your lifts to go up, you have to let your bodyweight get up there. I didn't begin realizing my potential until I stopped trying to make the 198s. That doesn't mean you should fulk and get sloppy but at the same time don't pigeon hole yourself into a specific weight class.

Re: Squats. I think you're rocking a little too much knee travel. Get those hips back a little bit more before you descend.

haha thanks. I actually think I could have gotten a few more TBH but I was already into double digit reps so no reason to risk an injury or let my form get too ****ty. My quads are definitely feeling it today tho.

I even emailed kelloggs and demanded they bring them back. sadly they said there were no plans to, but knowing how they role there will be a simialr flavor come spring...also, they sent a coupon for a free box of 'tarts so I suppose that fills the void slightly.

Yeah, **** 148, IDK what I was thinking. Its just so goddamn easy for me to drop weight (and hard to gain), but im not backing down this time. 198 could be a very long term goal, perhaps when I am around your age, but I think having "pit stops" at 165 and 181 on the journey is pretty much the plan. Obviously no reason to hold back on the weight gain, but at the same time if I were to get to 181 in the near future im confident my strength (and muscle) gains would not be proportionate. If I do it somewhat controlled and slower I think it will be the most beneficial... will work on the squats though. TBH they are even way better now then they were like 3 weeks ago so I just gotta keep tweaking my form a little until I get it spot on....and as for those videos, damn, strong progress...Also, the lifts in the 1st meet were ****ing grinders. mirin how you gutted them all out.

Inspiring and motivating for even just a guy who's looking to get lifts up and size up... Much less powerlifting

Mitch, one more tirade before I go:

I think there's a big misconception among the general public (even aspiring PLers) that going up a weight class means you getting disgustingly fat at a breakneck pace. When I tell people I'm moving from the 220s to the 242s this year their eyes bug out. "You're going from 215 to 242?" they say. I just Bert Stare them and then explain that weighing 1lb above the 220 cutoff would qualify me as a 242er. I will end up being a "small" 242er around the low 230s. I made a promise to myself that I would never cut water and/or diet into a meet ever again and I'm sticking to that. I will compete at my natural weight for the rest of this competitive season no matter where it falls. I think you should do the same thing. Eat big, (within reason of course) lift big, and when you pick a meet just compete in whatever class your weight is at. So what if you're a 170lb 181er? I guarantee you'll have a better meet competing at your natural weight than you will if you cut for it. Save the weight cuts for when you're attempting national and/or world records. You have a lot of potential and I'd hate to see you waste as much time as I did by spinning my wheels in a lighter weight class.

I did not know Coan started at 165, holy ****...A few of the guys in my gym back home were former 148ers when they were my age (maybe a bit younger) and now are beasts in 220s and 242s. Im sure most of them were/are on some "supplements" but still, its definitely motivating.

I did the fast(er) weight gain thing a few years back and I didnt want to do it again this time around (thats not to say I will never utilize this technique again, but while in college I'd like to remain looking somewhat decent naked)... Slow and steady this time. strength has been coming along great so I cant really complain.

Great advice. I definitely know I dont need to become a fatass to gain weight/move up a class... This "meet" coming up is like spur of the moment and is our clubs first attempt at a push/pull for our school. It could either go great or be a disaster, but it should be a good time regardless. I havent picked a real meet yet, but should probably start looking for some in early 2013 (or even late 2012)...good theory on the weight cuts too. Idk if I will ever be in the position of going for records, but I'm sure being at your natural weight and not having to stress about cutting will definitely lead to optimal performance (see Efferding last weekend?).

I was thinking about applying for it myself but the competition is stiff then I thought of you and thought I'd throw this your way if you weren't aware (it's the Nutrabolics competition). I'd love to get it but I have zero chance haha.

“Go back?" he thought. "No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!" So up he got, and trotted along with his little sword held in front of him and one hand feeling the wall, and his heart all of a patter and a pitter.”
