He reckons that if we lift the same then he is stronger because he is smaller. I'm arguing that I have a larger ROM because I'm 6ft 3 so therefore I am stronger. I'm right, right? He is 5ft 6, and looks like he lifts more (obviously at that height).

He might think he's stronger but he'll still need a stool to reach the top shelf.
But he probably is. I got long ass arms which puts a little more resistance on my Bench etc

All that matters is body weight to lift weight ratio brah.

The increased ROM (relative to your body or not) makes moving heavier weights harder for you.
Your friend having less mass to work with makes moving heavier weights harder for him.
All in all it's a toss up, you two are obviously in different weight classes, but as far as any competition would be concerned -- he is stronger. I would say based on the information, I couldn't say who is stronger.I know a little bit about everything, but I don't know a lot about anything. -SeriousMiscWizard

We aren't talking strength 'sports'. We are talking raw John 98 power. If I lift 500lbs 50cm, and he lifts 500lbs 35cm, I am stronger surely?

larger range of motion = more difficult as weight is heavier due to a longer lever obviously. But you have more mass i'd imagine.
Shorter range of motion = less difficult due to shorter levers. But has less mass (although as he's short the manlet illusion will make it seem like he is bigger).
It depends on how you look at it if you are both doing the same. Imo, you are both as strong as each other, you are doing the same weight irrespective of your own. But I'm tempted to side with you as my arms are relatively long and it can be frustrating when a manlet 5 stone lighter is lifting more than you xD.Last edited by Achillesuk; 10-02-2012 at 11:39 AM.

do manlets even physics?
OP your muscles (if you lift the same as manlet) are stronger. why?
lets take curls for example.
-axis point is elbow.
-bicep pulls on forearm to bring weight up.
- if your forearm is longer than his it takes more energy for your bicep to bring that weight up (think if you were shoveling sand... its easier to shovel the closer your hand is to teh spade)
if anything a manlet should be blowing you out of the water with all lifts.
no hate.... i know some strong ass manlets, and this is the reason why...
that being said... i dont wanna take anything away from the dude... its just for your muscles to lift the same weight, they have to work harder than his... justsayin' & this is like grade 8 physics, not university level mechanics++ Positive Crew ++

it depends on what kind of manlet he is. i know a few people who have short legs, long torsos, and have an arm span of +70 inches. in that scenario, everything should be equal except squats and deadlifts. body weight to strength ratio is what should count.
