Because crosffit makes outrageous claims about anareobic conditioning being aerobic conditioning and vice versa.
Crossfitters train for mediocrity. They are weak lifters and slow runners. They refuse to specialize. This is why crossfit only makes you good at doing crossfit.
Crossfit tells you fitness is broken, then provides an nonsensical approach to an imaginary issue.

Responsible CrossFit is fine. People doing it to get healthy because it's fun and they like the "team" mentality, that's cool.
But the people who are dogmatic about it, elitist about it, and unsafe about it are way off. There's the problem. All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone.

it's not always like this. sometimes wod's for example are broken up into 2 workouts. A strength wod and a wod. typically we NEVER do high rep oly lifts. Our Oly lifts are focused more in the Strength WOD portion which can sometimes be a 5x3, or a 1 rep set at 50% weight focusing on form.

I agree with you, that elitist attitude is horrible. I love bodybuilding as much as all of you, trust me. My roots are here but I just do this because I eventually just grew tired of the monotony of it all and wanted to see how far I could take myself after losing 200lbs.

lol the videos are making me cringe. Wtf are the instructors teaching in the strongman revival vid? God awful. I want to see an overall injury report from lifting like this.
Why not save the money, follow an actual power lifting routine like 531 or something, throw in some hill sprints or run some stairs afterward, some form of HIIT. Guaranteed if your nutrition's on par your going to get a lot better results then shelling out the dough to do crossfit and break your back lol.

Honestly there are some aspects of crossfit that are good to mix into your regular weightlifting routine. Olympics lifts and strongman exercises are some of them. As ling as you use good form.
The problem lies within the culture of crossfit. They are pretty much and elitist cult now. If you don't follow the exact WOD, eat only paleo, and pay big bucks to be in their "special" group, you're "stupid" or just another "meathead" that goes to a regular gym.
They need to realize people can supplement those exact workouts they use to help get better over all results. They need to stop being elitists and stop thinking their way is the only way.
They need to realize they are not doing anything new except using bad form. They things they are doing have been around for a long time.*Misc Firearms Crew Illuminati*

no worries OP, it's quickly building in popularity, kind of like how mixed martial arts took a while getting through the 90s, early 00s.

I think the basic concept of cross training is not new.
But, why should I pay $150+ to work out in a stuffy room with a bunch of careless people dangerously throwing weights around when I can just get my cross training by jumping rope ($10), running sprints ($0) and dragging a tire sled ($0)?
The women are fine as fukk, no doubt about it, maybe that would be a motivating reason if I were single. Seems like a good place to procure an in-shape and aesthetic wife. When all that says 'it is good' has been debunked, what says 'I want' remains.

There are many or few ways to achieve your goals and Crossfit could be one of them. However, I know is not for me.
I've been lifting weights since late 90's and over the years. I know what I feel confortable doing and what I would keep doing over and over (I can't picture myself doing cross fit now in my mid 30's, neither in my 50's).
I find crossfit to be too far from my routine, since I dont want to get injured or screw my joints more and I want to feel motivated to do it again next time. Something weird in fitness is that, while you might still get stronger over the years (yes, the progress has been very slow but I still lift more as time goes bye), you become more vulnerable to accidents and injuries if you are not careful or not using proper form. I have no idea, how these people can be licenced to train others with such a bad form and still charge a lot for it.....
While I workout,I'm watching a movie, youtube, miscing, texting, reading comic and sometimes even playing videogames. I can't recall the last time I did a workout in which I was not doing any of the above. Yes, that's just me but I found my solution and everybody should find his/her own.
However, is worth to mention that crossfit is probably making some of the best looking bodies out there and my ideal body shape is way closer to Crossfit than bodybuilding shape would ever be.Cool Beta forever.

Yeah, but is that essential to cross training?
The basic idea of using many different training modalities in order to be more well rounded can be achieved much cheaper than paying $150/month for a crossfit membership.
Crossfit uses expensive stuff like bumper plates and Oly bars.
Sites like rosstraining promote the same concept with cheap or free equipment, a leather jump rope, an old tire, stones, dumbbells or kettlebells, etc.
Why pay more?
But, no hate, as I said, it is a good place to procure an aesthetic fit wife. When all that says 'it is good' has been debunked, what says 'I want' remains.

Well said...if xfit can change its techniques to ensure safety of the exerciser then it's well worth it. Poor form with performing high reps just invites injury as many other posters have stated. Form is key to any exercise so that's what xfit coaches should stress in their training classes, as well as making sure the persons can handle the weight in question. With these changes then xfit can be a good supplement to ordinary weight training
Precisely...its just as gimmicky as p90x the way it's marketed now. No way will xfit become more mainstream with this sort of crap

I'll just leave this here.
If this isn't true 'functional strength' then I don't know what is.
Brb deadlifting, cleaning, front squatting, push pressing then a split jerk with 205kg and not a single sweat was broken that day.
Edit: Lol'ing hard @ the top comment on this video:
you ****ing peasant, that 1 complex he just did is the total load, of your entire workout. Just cause you do a **** load of random exercises doesn't mean your any good at them. Your WOD's are random, unstructured, pay $1000 do a 2 day course your a crossfit instructor, your **** is a sham, **** off.Last edited by Xen0n; 08-14-2012 at 11:28 AM.

Most 'elite' crossfiters came from other lifting sports and were already exceptional athletes. Supposedly Rich Froning (one of the CF champions) doesn't even do 'crossfit'. He does circuit training, but its not the normal CF workouts.
Don't get me wrong, some of their workouts are decent... but a lot of them are crappy. I've done the Murph quite a few times and I like it. Only difference is I don't kip the pullups and I do full atg squats. Not really concearned about my 'time'. The Murph is :
1 mile Run
100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 Squats
1 mile Run
Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed. Start and finish with a mile run.
Its a great workout if you are on vacation or don't have access to a gym. Most public parks have a running track and pullup bars now days.
Its popular with LE/Mil.Last edited by guest89; 08-14-2012 at 11:37 AM.
