    Home Made Weight Gainer.. Oats?

How the hell are you guys drinking oats? Isn't it kind of gross having solid oats in the blended drink? I tried to make it today with this:

And it tasted . . okay I guess until the oats. My god that was a horrible experience. I'm trying to get my diet down (Which is by far the hardest part about working out for me) and I figured that a weight gainer would help.

You didn't think to grind the oats down in to a powder...?

You can put the oats in the blender at the same time of the rest of it...that said, I've drank plenty with oats that were not blended and never had a problem.

Use a blender, I have been drinking my homemade gainer recently also. Its good when you blend it up, only a little oats left at bottom at times, not bad though just a little snack at the end. I add in maybe a banana or apple from time to time, tastes good with both. Add ice if you want it cold and more slushy like.

Oats work well but even when ground in a coffee grinder they can still clump and sink to the bottom. Glucomyx by spp is an amazing complex carb (high fiber) choice to add to your protein powder and the taste is neutral and pleasing.

    This.

Use a bullet or something to grind your oats, if you're hell bent on solely taking in extra calories via shake.

i set aside about 30 minutes a month to stock up on lbs of oats and stand next to my blender repeatedly filling it, blending the oats to a fine powder, and pouring it into empty protein containers.

one thing that you need to be aware of is that even though a lot of people here say 1/2cup of blended oats = 1/2 cup of unblended oats, that concept is 100% wrong.
i use an electronic food scale on a daily basis and this is what i have to say:
1/2 level cup of blended it oats is nearly 2x the weight of 1/2 level cup of unblended oats

    just FYI.

...something that fills most the void of air space in the same volume of something that doesn't isn't the same weight?!

What people are saying in that 1/2 cup blended = 1/2 cup not blended is that once you blend the 1/2 cup it no longer fills the same amount in your measuring device. It's still the same 1/2 cup of oats and as such still has the same caloric and macro amount.

Thank you both, for stating the most obvious. I've never seen it stated that 1/2 cup blended = 1/2 cup unblended; and if some dipshit has posted that that isn't in the negs then this forum is failing.

I put oats into a coffee grinder to turn them into powder, don't even notice them. Also try adding almonds to your shake!
