You can really do whatever you like with many different products, when it comes down to it. The best bet is to just do something; go grab something right now from CVS and try it out; use a little, use a lot, use your fingers, use a comb, etc. There's a reason why barbers and such get loyal customers; there is not definitive answer to these questions.

Yeah I've used quite a bit of products. Currently using the redken 17 structure wax. I've used glue and that American crew grooming cream before. Used to just do a faux hawk all the time. For the last 5 months been rocking beckham current cut. I'm gunna switch it up now to marco reus above. I'd post pics of my hair but they're all on my Instagram.

Y'all can feel free to follow me at ahm926. I follow back.

Here is my hair with yesterdays leftover pomade in it, about 20 seconds of combing, and watching NASCAR, eating wings, drinking beer and generally being American on this sunny, 90 degree day.

For traditional men's haircuts nothing beats pomade. If you plan on using it do a little research though or you will end up hating it; thinking you just rubbed globs of Vaseline in your hair (which you sort of did do).
What's this type of haircut called? I've been meaning to get something similar. My hair is super thick and naturally does that without needing any product.

anyone go into a salon (actual salon) and give them vague idea, but give them creative control? too indecisive and my hair grows fast, so hoping for best.

Never give them control. Bring in a picture of what you want. Tell them to do it, and ask them if they have advise on how to make the haircut/style suit you better. Talk to them through each step. Never let them work haphazardly.

Been going to the same hairdresser since I was 15. We have a connection and understand of the process

Can someone explain why men are going to salons? (srs)

Overpriced for a men's haircut (unless you actually get all the other stuff like washes and whatever girl-stuff they do), no shaves, women's grooming products/scents, etc.

    Not hate by the way.

Because I'm pretty much a homo in every way except liking dick.

but srs, I guess cause they know more about styling/cutting hair in a better/lasting way. not just fades, etc.

Well I've been going to the same hairdresser for 6/7 years. She's at a salon, but anyways...besides that

For the most part barbers don't know how to do stylish cuts. You right also they wash your hair, and their products are better for the most part. Plus I prefer going to a girl, because they know about fashion/clothes/etc (no homo). In otherwards they're more enjoyable to talk to.

Also agree with with the poster above me about dat ****gy time lol

    Fair enough of course.

I think some people just can't find the 'right' barber; sometimes the older ones do more 'old people' cuts. If you find the younger barbers they will do extremely stylish men's cuts; still traditional, but modern.

Obviously not the same for you since you've been going to the same person for years which is great; just putting it out there for people looking for a barber.

No hate at all towards old-guy barbers, either, to clarify.

If the barber was a gay dude id be down.(no homo) They can cut some serious hair.

Edit: most youtube vids of different haircuts/styles have gay barbers lol

running low on Hanz De Fuko Sponge Wax, something i've been using for the past year, and the official website has it on backorder which is way too long of a wait. i'm looking at the modify pomade since it seems like it might do the job. has anyone tried it before and if so how does it compare to the spongewax in terms of shine and hold?

Do any of you brahs have a swirl on their hair? For example the right side of my fringes curves to the right and it makes it difficult to style that part because the hair isn't naturally straight. I basically have straight hair but on the right side of my fringes it suddenly curves to the right than back in if it makes sense. I have a full head of hair and a good hairline for the most part but I an't to see if anyone else has the same problem as me. I guess it's kinda like a "cowlick"

    For example
    over his left eye

but mine is closer to this guys

Anyone has the same issues? Any recommend styles? I don't even need a perfect/crazy hairstyle since i'm pretty aesthetic but a new style would be nice. I've been rocking the fauxhawk for the past 1-2 years but I want to try something new. Lately I've been going with a messy look

    This^^^^

I'm on dat dere cowlick time as well. Its a pain in the anus especially when you try and have longer hair. If a straight buzz would suit me i'd get it but it doesn't. The latest haircut i got the barber pretty much just cut one side of it off loool. Its a bit too much in imo but meh needed a new look nomsayin.

Also get on dat dere no poo if you have healthy, hair dont even need products to style it and your hair becomes less poofy and more natural looking.

seriously though, get a haircut based on your head and face shape. if you are not sure ask your barber.

I also have bushy eyebrows and bags under my eyes (allergies). trim your brows (youtube: alpham eyebrows) and get a cold gel eye mask. seems to work for me.
