Pretty cool idea despite being a complete waste of money and resources at least for right now.
But in the future we will need some infrastructure on the moon. Moon is chalk full of Helium-3, which is really rare on Earth and would do wonders for energy production. But our technology hasn't caught up to use helium-3 on any mass scale yet.

Okay, I'm convinced. I'm reading that and I like how fiery the guy is...but this is just nutz.
Alright, Romney or Paul. Wouldn't for Obama unless forced to at gunpoint.
Gingrich is a nutty as Bachman. Geez........“From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd—
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother...”

Is he really this stupid?
Or is he relying on the American/Floridian public being that stupid?Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless, like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend. - Bruce Lee

"The treaty explicitly forbids any government from claiming a celestial resource such as the Moon or a planet, claiming that they are the Common heritage of mankind."

If I believed him, he'd have my vote.
I am very disappointed in our space program. We landed on the moon in the 60's then nothing. The technology is here, there's just no will. It may be really really really really long term thinking, but one day humans will need to leave earth. You need to start somewhere.
It's too bad that we seem to think small. I don't think humans will ever step foot on Mars.^^^()()GERMANIC CREW()()^^^

I hope he realises he's basically trying to steal private property.

What is so wrong about this idea?
Newt wants to encourage the private sector to create new ideas with transportation to the moon, through government "cash prizes" like we used to with the automobile/flight sector. It's not like Newt wants to take a massive amount of the budget to get this done, or increase taxes. It would mainly be done through the private sector.
This would create jobs, make us more competitive with the Chinese program, etc... And obviously he's mainly saying this because he's on the "space coast" of Florida where many jobs have been lost. Just trying to get dat dere votes.__________________________________________

what exactly is wrong with wanting to build a moon colony? It sounds far fetched to say it can happen by 2020 but how does this make anyone stupid?
You can't do or say anything these days without being called stupid....and to say that people who support him are stupid is phucking stupid. Just because someone supports a different politician than you doesn't make them stupid. Could they be misinformed? Yea. But stupid? no need to be a prickHow far do we have to stretch the truth, to fit the lifestyles borrowed and overdue?- Nujabes R.I.P.

Most people don't seem to be aware but China actually has an active manned Mars mission scheduled by 2040. It's written in their latest 10 year plan and they're throwing billions into it. Of course it's still early and they're in the pre-planning stages for figuring out how to engineer the tech to make it work. Their lunar manned missions will be set by 2020 as well. They won't be backing out.
