Ok guys, my body fat percentage is around 22% and my target is 12%, i am wondering is it possible to lose 1-2% of body fat per week ? and if i was to lose this, how much weight would that be roughly? eg, how many pounds would be around 1% of body fat? thanks.

"Everyone thinks they're on their way to single digit body fat as soon as they see a blurry four-pack in the right lighting.Your final body weight at 5-6% will be a lot less than what you think.Talk to me again when you get in contest shape." I'd be willing to say that 95% of people on this forum accomplish nothing in years, don't be one of those people. It's sad,they seem to have the knowledge many don't but can't utilize it.

That is not accurate.
to see how much weight one need to lose to achieve a certain bf% the formula is:
bw = lbm/(1-bf% in decimal form)
The formula for lbm is:
lbm = bw x (1-bf% in decimal form)
So if the op is 180lbs 22%bf to drop 1% bf he will need to be at a bw of 177.7lbs (assuming he retains all of his lbm). The higher the bf% the more weight one will need to lose in order to drop 1%. A person who is 200lbs 10% has to lose less weight to drop 1% than someone who is 200lbs 30%.
@ the op your goal is likely not realistic and we cannot answer your other questions without your stats.

It might be perfectly possible to achieve what he wants if he means 1-2% of 22% body fat.
So, 1% is 0.22% of body weight. 2% is 0.44%.
Say if he weighs 200#. Then he loses 0.44# (at 1%) or .88# (at 2%) per week.
Is that unrealistic to lose .44 - .88 pounds of fat a week?Last edited by Jetigen; 11-15-2011 at 12:39 PM.

Do they? I could be wrong but doing the math I get.
200lbs 10% ---> 197.8lbs 9% a loss of 2.2lb
200lbs 30% ---> 197.2lbs 29% a loss of 2.8lbs
the guy with the higher bf% has to lose a little over half a pound more to drop 1% (assuming no lbm loss); But I guess that's not really a significant difference.

jaybc, you have to use terms like "pounds of fat" or "% of body fat" because people here are easily confused. Just because you're trying to be so technical I figured I'd mention that you need to be a bit more specific. Sheer weight is weight, losing weight doesn't specifically mean losing fat. 200lbs is 200lbs no matter how you slice it.

a)please use the imperial system, because most of us are thick americans and don't like to do math. Stone? What the cock is that???
b) Can you do simple arithmetic? If you are x pounds, and y percent of that is your bodyfat, you can't figure that out? You're 17 and from a first world nation. Don't be dull.
c) Just lose weight and worry about the mirror.Don't Drink, Don't Smoke, Watdo you do?

Mathmatically it is possible, realilistically it really isn't. I have been losing 0.5% a week, and I think that is pretty good. Losing 1% a week every week would be really hard to do. Look around on this website and see how many people you see go from 22% to 10% in 12 weeks....it doesn't happen!
