agreed... and passing the costs is one thing... doing it in this brazen fashion is a serious F U to people who have stood by them for a long time.
Its like... oh you like paying $14 a month? Nice, now u pay $23 a month cuz of the movie studios.
fck offfffff... raise it from $14 to $16 and send me a nice letter explaining why and I'd bite... but fck u netflixyou should read this

They also projected that they would lose only 800k subscribers. Instead, they lost an *additional* 600k...so 1.4 million total. I don't care what your revenue projections are...losing $14 million in revenue in a quarter (1.4 million times an average $10 subscription) is a big, big hit to take. Plus, they lose that revenue going forward. And that doesn't even count people who downgraded from discs + streaming plans to one or the other...that's another $2 lost per subscriber who they manage to keep, but who downgrades.
Fat, but working on it.
Again.
"Do you think the men who built all this had it easy?!" "Hard men! Doing hard sh*t!" "And that gives me a hard on! But, uh, not in a gay way or anything."

I just canceled my cable TV, and tried out netflix. it sucks too, the crap to good stuff ratio is the same as cable and everything I want to watch is dvd only and has a waiting list.
I remember when cable was uncensored and had no commercials, that was why you paid for it. Why anyone pays now is beyond me.
screw all that crap, Ill just keep downloading like I have been since '94. BRB getting whatever I want to see and not a single F was given.

I agree brushing people off about a price increase is a bad PR move, but "the principle" of it?
This is a business, not a charity, they can make their price whatever the fuk they want. it is up to you, the consumer, if the price they are charging is worth the good/service they provide. If not, you can take your business elsewhere/save.Want to save $100s on books each semester? -->http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=137815283&page=1

I really think they just handled the price increase the wrong way. Im sure they could have made a marketing plan or something that didn't make it look like they were raising prices just to do it. Could have provided all the reasons they "had" to, of course unless they are raising prices just to do it and can't justify it. I cancelled mine a few days ago because they don't get new stuff to either the DVD selection or Instant often enough for me, couldn't justify the cost anymore

This.
I've had Netflix for 4 years now and will continue to use it. Back then streaming was not even possible, and was only in testing mode. Most of the complaints now are from recent subscribers who only pay for streaming. I hardly use streaming, since the movie selections are sub-par to every thing I can get mailed.
Have been paying for 3-Dvds at a time since the beginning. Was only $17.99 back then and went up a buck or two last year. With the changes now, it will go up another $3 at the start of next year. So no, not even mad. There is nowhere else you can get the variety of movies Netflix offers.
BRB watching 6 topnotch movies back-to-back every week (from mail, I don't even bother looking at the streaming selections).
BRB watching movies from Czech, Bosnia, Africa, Russia, Tibet, and every other ****ing corner of the world.
Unless you only watch mainstream (mostly ****ty) Hollywood flicks, I'd recommend some of you ******* whiners to upgrade to DVD-by-mail.
And this. It was only last year, the studios made us have to wait a month for new movies to be delivered or streamed after coming out in DVD, and other ****.
Long live Netflix. U MAD, *******S?

I had Netflix for 4 months and got rid of that ****. You get 1 good movie a month, besides that there is maybe 2 good movies. Within a month I probably watch everything worth watching and then it's like ok WTF now? They are cracking down on piracy, torrenting, etc.. yet they can not afford to provide a quality streaming and hosting company. I want HD, Bluray, ALL the TV shows, newest episodes out right away, newest dvd's/bluray releases, new movies that are in THEATER I will pay $10 to watch at home.
If I think a movie is good enough, i'll go to the theater and pay for me and my girl to get whatever we want, because the movie will be worth it. They are taking away something people can enjoy (torrents) and not replacing it with any other service that can be as good. (in b4 cheap, I will spend $50 for me and my girl when we go out for just the theater)
I will gladly pay a monthly fee for a premium service. It's a fact no one can afford the storage, and servers needed for 200 million people to watch what they want to in HD or Bluray. So **** off government, let us have torrents till you can actually replace it with a justifiable service.
edit:
Yes they aren't getting any money(when torrented), but that is only someone else to blame. Provide a outlet that users can pay for these "copyrights" and make everyone happy

Its not about price its about how terrible their streaming selection is. I have their streaming and if it goes up any more I will can it just because all its good for is tv shows, the good movies are far and few and I hate waiting for dvds to come in the mail. When I want to watch something I want to see it now not in 2 days when it gets here. I'd rather take a 3 minute ride to town and get it then and there.

dont be a fool... do you know how the stock market works? This particular news triggered the selling. That analyst's article did not.
The huge drop last week is particularly due to that news. Not taking anything away from mr Jacobs, he made a great call, and between the fundamentals and the technicals, there was recipe for a drop... but that drop would not have happened last week if 1M+ custoemrs didnt cancel.
If that news didn't drop, Mr. Jacobs would still be waiting for his shorts to pay off.

We have bigger issues than netflix being money hungry. Seems like all internet providers at one time or another will enforce caps on bandwidth. Currently ATT is capping DSL at 150GB and Uverse at 250GB a month.
As to Netflix, I downgraded to streaming only. If anything, now it's cheaper for streaming only. I really didn't care much for the DVD selection anyways. The only issue with the streaming is that they don't updated it enough. I don't justify the big increase, but an increase was meant to happen.Spare the reps, bang a chick.
