That will never happen. There were multiple lawsuits against Rapidshare and they always won, they even removed the bandwidth limit few days ago.

They do, because they offer to settle for $500 or so, you have no idea how many people will just pay up to avoid going to court with the risk of thousands of dollars + fees.

And to add to this, on Rapidshare/Hotfile etc, you'll sometimes see that content is removed due to copyright claims, so don't think that Rapidshare/Hotfile/ etc wont sell you out in a heart beat if someone does decide to subpoena them.

ITT we don't understand dynamic IPs...Just because your current IP is not on the list, does not mean you are in the clear.

If you think you're not tracked when you watch TV/Movies online you are a fool. Icefilms knows every user that visits their site. (inb4 VPN, Proxy etc)

Look at what happened to the guys who ran ninjavideo.net, they are facing serious jail time.

In order of security...

1. Private FTP sites
2. Usenet with SSL
3. Private Torrent Sites
4. RapidShare/Megaupload etc
5. Limewire, iMesh, other p2p garbage

Anyways, as was said, these people will likely walk after the recent, "An IP is not a person" ruling.

That is your dynamic local IP, not your static IP set by your ISP.

This. Your router will have the same IP, and that is what they use to track it.

Also, 23,000 x $3000 = 69 Million. They are seeking a TON of money WOW. I wonder how much of that 69 M will be spend on hunting these people down and trying to collect their fees. Obviously some people will not be ordered to pay that up front. In a court of law even if found guilty, there are many options and payment plans to repay any debt. No court will force someone in extreme circumstances and hardships, they usually discuss some sort of garnished wages. It will be a tough , rough battle for them to see 69M on this one.
