I have to put small plates under my heels when squating??

I have uncomfortable snapping behind my knees when I squat or deadlift. It goes away when I put small plates below my heels because I read that flying heels can hurt the knees and I saw Arnold put a piece of wood below his heels as well. So what do u guys do ? Will curling my toes up help or should keep putting something? Also won't it be difficult to do this while deadlifting? Plz help

Plates under the heels is generally for flexibility. So you can get deeper in your squat, drive through your heels and sit back. I dont know what this snap sound youre talking about is.

Check your form first thats most likely where the issue is. you shouldnt have your heels elevated on a conventional deadlift also.
The only things that should be small in this world are bills and panty sizes

I have been squatting for 3 years heavy with no problems. This snapping comes when I walk and its very annoying. It don't feel it when I run. IDK ,I'll keep putting the plates until it goes away.
