The British marine in the first part must be pretty crazy... and ingenious! Too bad UK brahs don't have light helos to use...
Also remember this ballsy rescue? This isn't like running into enemy fire on a beach, but it's still admirable.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of Death, I shall fear no evil, because I'm the baddest motherf#*%er in the valley.

brahs, i dont think that anyone here understands quite how horrible the battle of stalingrad was, here are some facts about the battle of stalingrad:
The average life expectancy of a reinforcement soldier in Stalingrad was as low as 24 hours !!. Whole units were sacrificed in Stalingrad's desperate defense. One unit which perhaps sacrificed most in the battle of Stalingrad was the elite 13th Guards division, which was sent across the Volga into Stalingrad just in time to repel a German attack that reached the Volga near the center of the city. 30% of the 10,000 warriors of the 13th division were killed in the first 24 hours of their arrival, and only 320 survived the battle of Stalingrad, a horrible 97% death rate, but they saved Stalingrad in the most critical moment.
According to archival figures, the Red Army suffered a total of 1,129,619 total casualties;[52] 478,741 men killed or missing and 650,878 wounded.
Soviet troops that were sent there KNEW that they were going to die within the first day of arrival and did it for the motherland anyway.
That being said, i can only imagine how horrible the war was on germany. SUrrounded and being crushed from all sides, real apocalypse scenario for german civilians, who were bombed to hell by the allies, and most of which (civilians of course) were completely innocent. The Master said: A man cunning of word and smiling of face... ...is rarely benevolent

Some pictures of Winter War
Shows the weather conditions during the war, one of the coldest winters ever in Finland
Fallen Soviet soldiers
Finally, here's a pic of the first Finnish civil casualty from the soviet's bombings, 7-year old Armi Hillevi Metsäpelto. (The truth is she probably wasn't the very first, but nevertheless among them.) You can probably understand the effect of this pic from the propaganda point of view"I AM ALWAYS HERATBORKING ALL THE TIME."

^^^ Damn, never seen that pic before. I almost want to question it being real.
Bumping this old thread. Lots of great photographs in here. As far as the winning formula for the Allies, it was American war material (via Lend-Lease) and overwhelming Soviet manpower that ultimately won the war, combined with Hitler's failures as a military strategist and unwillingness to listen to his capable generals. That doesn't take away from the many other Allied countries that contributed and sacrificed so much for the effort, I'm just stating the main factors.Baltimore Orioles - Baltimore Ravens - Maryland Terrapins
