Hey guys question about Starting Strength

I lifted last year for about 2-3 months over the summer and got up to about a 170 bench. That was my only real focus. I didnt really bother to research, but then i stopped.

This year i started again about a month ago, doing all the same things. Just pounding out every workout i can 5-6 days a week. Then i decided to look on here as I dont think im gaining as much as i could be.

Im looking at Riptoes and decided to try it today, after doing it i realized that my back was LACKING alot. Squats were working muscles I never worked before, also deadlifts were a killer.

Should I use a different split? i.e. 2 muscle groups a day? or should i just continue with Riptoes SS?

Ill have pictures up later, but im not looking to be massive. Just in shape as over the past year im getting a little chubby. I intend on building muscles first and then cutting, as i see no point of cutting right now with no real muscle to cut to.

EDIT: I've been lurking the forums a while and just reading all that I can. Very good place for information. Thanks guys.

The fact that you find these exercises tough means you should stick to SS. Get the book. Works better if you understand it
