I moved this to the "Over-35" section because no one replied to it in the Nutrition section.
At least in this section...some of these threads at least get taken a bit more serious...thanks for any and all replies...
OK...I am real proud of myself...I'd rep myself if I could...LOL...some of you may remember that I have been having a hard time with whey based protein shakes because I am lactose intolerant...well...after looking for a powder that doesn't have any junk in it...I decided to look at an all natural foods protein shake instead.
I just tweaked a recipe I got off the internet...please let me know what you think...I could probably use some advice on how to make alternative flavor shakes...
P.S. I can't take dextrose...stuff makes my stomach hurt...
1/4 cup of Organic Pasteurized Liquid Eggs
8oz. of Lactaid Chocolate milk
1 Small vanilla Yoplait yogurt
2 tablespoons of Lactaid Cottage Cheese
1/4 cup of Oats
1/2 of a banana
1 dollop of Smuckers hot fudge
2 ice cubes
I estimate that it consists of about 40 grams of protein overall...Lactiad stuff isn't too heavy on fat...real good potassium levels too...
I haven't got the carbs and fat content down yet but I will do that tonight...but this tastes good as heck...that dollop of hot fudge makes it really chocolaty!!
I've taken it for about a week now with no stomach cramping, water retention, bloating or uncomfortableness whatsoever...plus...my muscles stay feeling pretty pumped...with very little soreness. I hit arms HARD last week and they weren't tender to the touch at all...I have been so far really happy with my new shake...
Thanks for any and all input...I will rep those who provide the best advice!

Sounds delicious
My only concern is the cottage cheese you added. I know that it is a good protein source but I never could stand the taste. HOWEVER, adding smuckers hot fudge and chocolate milk should kill the taste of the cottage cheese as well as the yogurt and banana.
Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to call it, Blazing Johns all natural protein shake. You might have something good brewing here.......

Sorry it took so long to get back to this...I don't have internet access at home and was off from work for a few days.
First off...I am REALLY glad that I got some replies...I originally posted it in the nutrition section and it was avoided like the plague...I didn't blame them though...there's like 1000's threads titled "New Protein Shake".
It actually is quite good...I think I will try a whole banana this week to see who it goes. Its not quite as thick as some people might like but its still a nice shake.
Here is the link for the egg white recipe I found: http://www.ehow.com/how_4793415_home...akes-eggs.html
I have modified it in my own whey...I mean way...~ Little pun on words people!
I have also experimented with other flavors now...I add Blueberries and Blueberry Yogurt with white milk...I have also done the strawberry now as well. All turned out good!
I hope some of you try it and report back that you like it as well! I impressed myself with this one! LOL...

bustasinclair and muttytwist
The serving ends up being about a 16 fl oz Solo Cup's worth give or take....not too big...not too small...I always had a problem with mixing up the protein powders...they always ended up being WAY too big 24-32 fl oz but even when I tried to cut back they still made me feel kind of ill. I don't think my body was able to process all the protein effectively.Last edited by JohnTheBlaze; 07-16-2009 at 10:23 AM.

I'm not a fan of cottage cheese either but blend it in a Magic Bullet with frozen mixed berries and a bit of yogurt, it comes out awesome.
I just had a thought. What if I were to add sugar-free jello to cottage cheese? Would it come out like mousse? I'll try it tonight and let you know the result.
ps - whoever suggested to blend the oats first before adding whey, water and ice came out good! Not gunky at all.

Here's my version that I tried today after getting back from the gym:
9 Tablespoons pasteurized egg whites (equals 3 eggs)
1/2 cup fat free milk
1/4 cup fat free cottage cheese
1 small container fat free blueberry yogurt
1/4 cup Quaker oats
2 ice cubes
The taste was great. It was thicker than a glass of milk but not "McDonalds shake thick" either. Here's the breakdown for this particular version:
* Approximately 18 ounces
* 348 calories
* 1.7g fat
* 45g carbohydrate
* 34.7g protein
That's roughly a 41/52/7 percent P/C/F distribution. I shoot for a 40/40/20 diet so its not exactly right for me but this is what I had on hand today and I wanted to experiment. It needs a little tweaking but overall I like the idea and I'll probably continue using it now and then.
Is it more expensive than a whey in water? My gut tells me it probably is but I'd have to really look at that.Drew

I imagine that the cost overall IS more expensive but because I have been having issues with the whey powders I have tried...I have decided to blend an alternative....I WISH I could just take the whey and leave it at that but I am stuck looking for a quick PWO alternative...believe me...I LOVED the powder shakes...but they are hard for me to digest...

Glad you tried it out Ranger! Thanks for the positive comments...I imagine it is more expensive but...in a pinch...it makes a good protien shake don't it? There are a lot of different fruits and yogurt you can mix..so the sky is the limit...that is the thing about powder though...9 times out of 10...its always the same...
The eggs offer the Amino's we need, the dairy stuff will give the casein and the potassium...some people might want to take a vitamin supplement...some of the shake powders have vitamins and minerals in them that this shake won't be able to compare in that regard.

Since nobody said it (we shouldn't have to), I will.
You MUST used PASTEURIZED egg whites. They come in a carton like milk in the dairy section of the supermarket. Using raw egg whites out of the shell is a BAD idea. Salmonella poisoning is serious business.
Sorry for stating the obvious, but Google will land some 13 year old on this thread one day so I figured it was worth it.Drew

Nutritonal Facts:
OK...The chocolate milk shake with fudge...not too good in some areas so...this won't be my weekly shake...seeing that the sugar levels are off the charts and the fat intake is pretty high! The blueberry one is decent not great but better...these figures ARE a bit rough though and can be tweaked accordingly...so...I need to play around with a few measuring cups to play with the EXACT figures. I used the facts off the cartons and came up with this:
Chocolate Lactaid Milk with Hot Fudge:
Fat - 10.5g
Sat. Fat - 3.7g
Cholesterol - 30mg
Sodium - 843mg
Potassium - 830mg
Total Carb. - 136.5g
Sugar - 87 g
Protein - 41g
Fiber - 10g
White Lactaid Fat Free Milk with Blueberries
Fat - 8g
Sat. Fat - .07g
Cholesterol - 15mg
Sodium - 692mg
Potassium - 830mg
Total Carb. - 124g
Sugar - 61g
Protein - 40g
Fiber - 14g
