thought i would make a list of some of the things that one shuoldnt do when trying to lose weight. Some of the stuff we have to learn the hard way, so i think it would be helpful if we could make a list, that way some people could avoid our mistakes. so here are a few.
-Dont cut back on your calories too much, or else you will go into starvation mode. making it impossible to lose weight.
-go easy on fruits, due to sugar.
-Dont fall of your diet or cardio routine, cause its hard getting back on track.
-Losing weight is not about eating the minimum to get through your day, its about eati healthy, clean and smart.
just a few things. i will write more later, add on if u have any tips. im sure some of us could benifit, it might stop us from making a mistake.

Okay, if you're on keto, I understand being afraid of carbs. That said, why does everyone **** their pants over fruit having sugar in it? I can understand the need to stop someone from making it their entire diet, but since fruit is low-cal to begin with, are you really taking in THAT much sugar by eating it? Eat the damn fruit.

Are you serious? Fruits have loaded with goodies and they are relative low in calorie density. Carbs do not make you gain weight, excess calories do. Conservation of energy, it's a law of physics.
3 apples have approximately 200 calories. Try eat 3 apples in one eating and see how full you are. The fiber would make you so full that eat more is PAINFUL.
Cliffnotes: Eat your fruits. Eat less calories overall to lose weight

ok i guess i gotta clarify, when i first started dieting, all i ate was salads and fruits. thats what i thought was healthy to eat when trying to lose weight. I checked my sugar with doc cause i felt weird, i had some high sugar. he told me bout fruits sugar, so i backed off a little and that put my sugar levels down. so thats why i put that there, i do eat fruits now but not as much as i did before.

needs to be removed. Have you seen all the fat people in this country? You think there is a risk of Americans going into starvation mode?
Eat 500 under maintenance and take into account your activity level when you calculate your maintenance (http://www.freedieting.com/tools/cal...alculator.htm#) If you eat less you risk losing LBM, but please stop all the talk of starvation mode.

Fruit is completely fine. I used to eat an apple or a banna everyday, and i dropped around 80 pounds from september to the 1st week in january. Do cardio, Lift hard, have at least 5 meals a day spaced out evenly and eat under maintence and you will loose weight. It's really quite easy, its all in the mind

I think fruits are fine to eat its just when your eating them. Obviously you dont want to have a Banana, strawbarrys, apples what ever before going to bed.
I work shift work so i got up around 5pm today, my breakfast consisted of 1 whole egg 4 eggs whites- made a omlet, 2 pcs of whole wheat toast with peanut butter and a BANANA! Hit the gym half hour later, and I had a crazy work out.
I got back from the gym and had rice, veggies and fish for dinner and another Banana. My sugar was under 4- im diabetic, so i felt i needed that extra banana.
Does anyone think thats to much fruit?
Also, I am going to work tonight and somewhere between Midnight and 8am I will be going on 5-6k walk.

Yeah your going to turn into a pumpkin...
Because I wouldnt want my body to story the sugars as fat if im going to be sleeping for 8 hours. If I have anything before going to sleep it casein.
The one I got last time was only like 130 cals, and 12g of carbs and 28g of protein. I cant remember who made it.

This happens to everyone. You did the right thing. Our bodies are made to adapt to most anything (this is the key to our survival). So when you're working out, losing fat, after a while your body's going to say "OH ****! I'm dying!" and then hold on to the fat because you're losing it.
So just keep the body guessing. With foods, with your work out and cardio. Are you more worried just about the numbers on the scale, or do you want to keep muscle?

**** me then! I must have 50lbs of fat from all the carbs, protein, fruits and vegetables I eat before bed.
That whole "Don't eat before bed" myth... is bull****. Forget all about whatever you've heard. Eat all the damn food you want. ****, I ate a lot before bed and still lost 70lbs. If you burn 3,000 a day, wouldn't you still burn calories while you sleep?

It depends on what your weight loss goals are really. There's losing weight just to be be healthy, theres losing weight to get into decent shape and theres losing weight to get into contest shape.
For the first two its pretty easy. just watch your carbs, no junk food and do your cardio. and yes you could eat some fruit.
For contest condition its much harder and NO you should not eat fruit if you have average genetics and want to be peeled on stage. There are some (like Ronnie Coleman or Dex) for example who can seemingly diet "lightly" and still get ripped but for the rest of us mortals you have to be very strict with your food.

You obviously have a very fast metabolism to be able to eat like that and not gain weight...not all of us can do that! you are lucky as hell
On the other hand your 6ft and change and only 180..thats pretty small by BB standards (not flaming bro, just sayin') so you will struggle to put on mass.
For most of us (me included) eating like you would not help get us lean! just goes to show how vastly people differ in genetics and body types.
Again, I would love to be able to eat like you do and still stay ripped but its just not possible for me.

Not just to join the argument but I think fruits are very good for you. Much better than a bacon egg and cheese biscuit every morning.
I am one of those people blessed with good genetics. I've only been back at it for 2 weeks after only 8 years off from the gym and I've already dropped about 11 pounds and I feel great while consuming only about 900 calories (my goal is to stay under 1000) which brings me to my tip: MODERATION.
Any thing can be bad for you in excess - even water. Moderation is vital. You have to burn off more than you put in.
You can eat almost anything in moderation. If you go out to eat get a to-go box soon as your food comes and put half or more in it to take home.
Except for soda. It's poison.
After about 2 months I'll jack my calories up to about 1300 and the weight will keep coming off --- or at least that's what worked when I was on the wrestling team in high school. We'll have to see what this 10 year older body will do now.-jw1911

That's a false dilemma, red herring. A caloric surplus makes you gain weight, you will find that nearly everyone in a caloric surplus is eating lots of carbs, and hardly anyone on a low carb diet is on a caloric surplus.
You are muddying the issue. The truth is, carbohydrates make people fat. Because they are comfort foods and because they contribute to your much vaunted energy surplus more than any other category of nutrient.
It is possible to be in a caloric deficit and not lose weight.
It is possible to be in a caloric surplus and not gain weight.
How? Hormones, of course. Hormones determine everything. And what you eat influences your hormones. Eating sugar influences hormones in a way that makes people fat. Carbs make people fat. Fat doesn't make people fat.Last edited by Al Shades; 01-23-2009 at 09:11 PM.

Nothing wrong with eating before bed but I definitely don't see people recommend fruit to consume pre-bed. The reason for eating several small meals a day is to control your insulin levels. If someone is eating apples, bananas and blueberries before bed, this is going to cause a huge insulin spike, not to mention probably wake you up a bit...possibly leading to lack of sleep, which would spike cortisol levels in the body thus leading to fat storage.
To the original poster, eat your fruit, it's damn good for you but consume foods higher in the protein.

i always eat fruit before bed. why? to keep my body from starving. Hell I even eat unhealthy granola bars before bed. The ones that have chocolate in them and are 90 calories each. However by the end of the week I'm down 2lbs since I watch my calorie intake and workout.

It will become increasingly more difficult to lose more weight as the fat melts off, especially if one has a considerable amount of body on them already. You've probably read/seen posts of people wanting to get rid of their "skinny fat" per say...This is where fine tuning of your diet comes in to play and carefully selecting what foods you eat throughout the day will get you to your goal much quicker.
You'll keep dropping body fat and weight as long as you are staying under maintenance.
